Here is my list of 5 Head Coaches who are, or should be, on the Hot Seat:

1. Mike London...Virginia. Can anyone tell me why this man is still a Head Coach? In 2011 his team won 8 games. In his other four years at Virginia, he has amassed a record of 15-33 and won a total of 5 ACC games (3 against Miami). Last season he returned 7 players on offense and 8 on defense and still could not qualify for a bowl game. Do Virginia fans just not care?

2. Mike Macintyre...Colorado. Yes he has only been there for two years, but his team went from 4 wins in 2013 to two last season. Worse than that, his teams have only one win against Pac 12 teams. That does not come close to cutting it in the very competitive Pac 12. Macintyre had 15 starters return last season and the team regressed.

3. Kevin Wilson...Indiana. Another Head Coach who'se team disappointed last season. Wilson returned 17 starters from a 5 win team in 2013 and had Indiana State, Bowling Green, and North Texas on the schedule. The best his team could muster was 4 wins, bringing his career total at Indiana to 14-34. He has 6 wins against Big 10 opponents in 4 years. Time to go.

4. Keith Ferentz...Iowa. This man is easily the most over-rated HC in all of College Football. Last season, his team was a top 25 ranked team at the beginning of the season. The results were a very poor 7-6 season including a humiliating loss to Tennessee in their bowl game. Ferentz has never won a Big 10 title outright. His teams are now 0-3 in their last 3 bowl games. Iowa fans must be satisfied with mediocrity in their football program.

5. Larry Fedora...North Carolina. Fedora's teams have regressed since his arrival, going 8-5 in 2012, and 6-7 in 2013 and 2014. His problem lies with the defense, or lack there of. His teams went 0-3 in games where they scored 41, 35, and 43 points. This year, the entire starting offense, save the TE, comes back. If Fedora cannot win the ACC Coastal with that lineup, he never will win an ACC Coastal Championship.

Agree w/ all of those. Fedora is probably the safest of the bunch.

Remember in the early 2000's when Kirk Ferentz was one of the hottest names (to take other jobs)? Now he's about to get his ass run out of there.

How the hell Mike London is still there is a miracle. He should have never gotten the job in the first place. Dave Clawson left Richmond to be Tennessee's OC (and then the whole Fulmer staff got fired). Clawson built that team and London came in and took them to the NC (w/ Clawson's staff & players) and landed the UVA job off of that merit. He's 23-38 there. With 1 winning season and 1 bowl game (a loss) in 5 years there. WTF?

Ferentz maybe should be but ain't on the hotseat with Iowa's administration. They love this guy.

He's one of the highest paid coaches in the country even though his win-loses deserve some scrutiny.

President likes him...board likes him...and not much bitching from the faithful.

He goes 5-7 or 4-8 a few times and none of that shit will matter. Trust me!

I agree 100% with this. The Iowa fan base just does NOT have that rabid culture and tradition , and the administration doesn't have a history of putting coaches on the hot seat.

Ferentz has almost an identical winning percentage of Hayden Fry (slightly better in bowls than Hayden) and Fry was never on the hot seat.

That's just not how Iowa folks roll.

Ferentz definitely isn't anything to write home to ma about. But there isn't anything about Iowa that makes me think they can improve in leaps and bounds with another coach. The recruiting base is awful. Made even worse now that prime contender Nebraska is in their conference and division and competing for recruits. Add to that the emergence of Penn State and Michigan, I just don't see Iowa being any more competitive than they are now. Let's not forget that they went 8-5 in 2013. And for the most part they average around 8 wins a season. I just don't see where they can improve more than a game or two above that with a better coach. They are basically in the same boat as Nebraska, but with less winning tradition.

I've always heard it played out that Ferentz insane buyout was part of the reason they never thought hard to let him go. If the fanbase were more ingaged, he would have been gone, but Iowa probably prefers bball to football.

I think it gets two-fold harder for Iowa in that Minnesota is on the upswing with a coach that can use that midwest (500 mile radius talent) and develop it. Nebraska, with a coaching change mind you, finished 31st on rivals. It was nothing short of damn impressive how they kept the top recruits in-line, managed to pluck a few nice pieces including that 4 star OL from your neck of the woods and fight off Harbaugh for a number of recruits he tried to poach at the end. Riley said he will really focus on that 500 mile radius, which will further water the midwest down for Iowa. Flat out he can recruit. His history might not be glamor but it's clearly evident they have a unique recruiting technique and manage to squeezed a lot of juice out of the lime. According to this article Oregon State was 4th best in the country over the last ten years on expected wins vs recruiting, only behind Wisconsin, Oregon and Missouri. That's solid company and pretty much geographically is similar to NU. Development plays a sweeter tune in Nebraska as opposed to just trying to get top-notch recruits. So, yeah, I think Ferentz is looking down the end of a barrel. And I wouldn't sleep on Illinois either, they closed really well today.

Iowa was obviously in a tougher conference than they original were given credit for.

Their schedule was easier than most but had hidden pockets of toughness with Minnesota and Wisconsin & Nebraska in a 4 weeks span losing 3 of 4 as Minny walloped them...then Wisconsin and Nebraska each won by only 2. Moreover, they lost a total of 5 of their 6 losses by less than 7 points.

I dont think Ferentz is in trouble just yet. A repeat again and maybe so.

Typical Iowa. Their style of play keeps them in most games, so yeah they usually don't get blown out...but they did have the last two games at home.....this was their year to win the division. But you may be right, perhaps he isn't in trouble, but it may have more to do with apathy than anything....I hear they are waiting for Bilema and his leg-tat to come in an resurrect.

Exctly, and that is why I said that Iowa fans just don't care about their sports, unless it is wrestling.

A big question for me is how Bob Stoops stays so entrenched at Oklahoma. He seems to achieve less with more than pretty much any major program in the country other than maybe Richt at Georgia. He's another head scratcher.

Add Al Golden (Miami) to the list. 6-7 record last year and a subpar recruiting class (on paper)

because he has been winning a lot (minus the 2014 season where they were down). the win over Alabama clearly helped him

expectations will always be high for OU/Stoops and it will almost always be hard to attain them. but OU is still doing better than most other schools.

who can they bring to OU that you could pretty much guarantee to be better? you cant reach for a coach and hope he does or OU is going to struggle for many years to come. Sooners have been down that road before.

if Stoops rolls together many mediocre years in a row....then consider it. but they won 10+ from 2010-2013 and played in some good bowls like Fiesta, Cotton and Sugar. it's not NC game seasons, but still pretty damn good

Good assessment. Oklahoma would be crazy to fire Stoops.

Stoops is similar to Mark Richt at UGA. Both have underachieved (although Stoops does have a NC). Richt has only won 2 SEC titles in his 14 seasons (and they were in his 2nd & 3rd seasons). He's a classic underachiever....but you never know, it may all come together for him one of these years. If they fire him the question is, 'who do they hire?'
