That fake punt/TD Pass was ruthless, not your usual Pete Carroll MO...the ghost of BCS past must be whispering in his ear. Thank God because I had the over and it might be the only significant bet I win all weekend what with the NFL tomorrow and all.

The primary reason that Carroll used the fake punt late was to try and give Leinhart an additional opportunity to throw his fifth TD pass in an effort to try and sway some of the Heisman voters, as this was a nationally televised primetime game. Next week, expect him to try an do the same against UCLA.

WC, I was in a restauraunt watching the game in the 4th quarter and I agree, that fake put was very surprising and not like them. up 34-10 with 7 minutes left. i was not on the game but if they punt the ball i think the game ends 34-10 and usc does not cover. We are both Pac Ten guys and I just dont think that needed to be done. 34-10 would not of been so bad Pete, you guys would of been fine.

how bout at the end of the gm nd is taking their time then punts on 4th down.

i guess it didn't matter to ty that a td would have been a push for me. had usc -24 but if i had nd, i'd be a little pissed off....

Mario...As Ted said, I bet 48 as soon as the line was posted (you'll also see it in my Pac 10 thread). Would have bet it at 49 but not over that.

Ted, hope you are doing well. I think you are right about the fake punt call since the next play was a pass. I don't know how much that will help but it does pad Leinarts stats.

Prophet...I agree. The BCS is making coaches do stupid stuff...tonight being one example and the other being the Oklahoma/Nebraska game. Carroll has always been a class guy, USC a class team. This is the first time I have ever seen them do something so, well, classless. Maybe someday it will bite a coach in the ass.

there is a case to be made that the fake punt had BCS/Heisman implications...however, I believe that was the first time this season that USC faked a punt or kick. My first instinct was that Pete and Norm were giving Okla/Auburn something extra to think about when they game plan for the Orange Bowl
