Diamondbacks selling $25 D-Bat Dog

By Darren Rovell | ESPN.com

The Arizona Diamondbacks are the latest team to go big at the concession stand.
Team officials revealed to ESPN.com its new D-Bat Dog, which it will sell at Chase Field this season.

It's an 18-inch corn dog stuffed with cheddar cheese, jalapenos and bacon, served with a side of fries.
The cost? A cool $25.

"This is really about providing our fans with new options each year, and in the case of some of our larger items, it's really about sharing with the family," team president and CEO Derrick Hall said. "We don't have any expectations for the D-Bat, but we'll look forward to seeing if it becomes popular with our fans. Every night for us is a successful night because we offer the most affordable food prices in all of baseball."

For those who aren't inclined to spend that much money, the team will also sell a Venom Dog. It's a footlong habanero sausage topped with black beans, guacamole, pico de gallo and sour cream and costs $10.

The team also is bringing back the Sonoran Dog, which it launched last year for $7. It's a hot dog wrapped in mesquite-smoked bacon with pico, beans and mayo.

The $25 hot dog barrier was first crossed in 2012, when the Texas Rangers unveiled the 2-foot Boomstick. The hot dog smothered in chili, nacho cheese, jalapenos and onions retails for $26. Despite backlash from some fans, the Rangers reportedly sold nearly 20,000 of them in the first season.

I'm a corn dog lover (Especially at fairs/State Fairs) and wouldn't mind giving it a try but jeez at least throw a drink in with it for $25...

D-backs need more $25 corn dogs

By Darren Rovell | ESPN.com

Sales of the Arizona Diamondbacks' $25 corn dog have been so brisk that the team's concessionaires can't wait for a week-long road trip that starts Friday so that they can prep enough to be ready for the team's April 11-13 homestand against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The 18-inch corn dog, called the D-Bat, is stuffed with cheddar cheese, jalapenos and bacon and is served with a side of fries.
The corn dog became a social media star when the team announced the item two weeks ago. Team president and CEO Derrick Hall said at the time that he didn't have any expectations, but Hall told ESPN.com on Wednesday that the item has been so successful, the team needs some catch-up time.
"We sold 300 on the first night," Hall said. "And we only sold 100 last night because we ran out. We can't make them fast enough. We have 100 ready for tonight and we'll have 100 ready for tomorrow. And then when the team goes on the road, we'll get to work to make more."
On opening night, some fans waited nearly an hour to be able to buy a D-Bat, and Hall said that if sales remain as brisk as they are, the team will have to extend the sale of the corn dog beyond the two concession areas that are selling it now.
Supersized concession items by major league teams have garnered a lot of attention in the past couple of weeks. The Texas Rangers unveiled the "Choomongous," two feet of Asian-spiced beef on a bun for $26, and the Chicago White Sox announced plans to sell a 3-pound, 12-scoop sundae in a full-size batting helmet for $17.
