Was just thinking that if this team could somehow shore up their defense, they could make huge strides next season. The Detroit offense has the potential to eventually play sequel to the St. Louis Rams' "Greatest Show On Turf" and earn the same name with #2 in the ending. An improving Joey Harrington with yet another year under his belt, a superstar wideout in Charles Rogers when healthy, and 2 fabulous rookies from this past season who are almost definitely future All-Stars, WR Roy Williams and RB Kevin Jones, are sure to put fear in defenders eyes in years to come. Haven't looked into their cap situation, butif this team lands some solid defenders in the off season, look out..........

Blue, in my opinion, the talent is definitely there with Harrington. The offensive line isn't the greatest either, but better last year than the year before. The majority of the time they were forced to play either catch~up or caught up in shootouts with other teams because of the lack of defense. They were in many games this year that they could of pulled off with a better defense, which leads to my initial thoughts in the beginning of the thread.....

Its obvious how paper thin everything is in the NFL and anything is possible nowadays, anybody who does not approach the new season with complete open-mindness is in trouble. However, one item that doesnt seem to change is, you have to have a running game, stopping one helps and above all, a coach that doesnt make too many mistakes.

Noreaga, hard to succeed when you're running for your life and playing catch up the majority of the time. But as I said, the OLine was much improved from the previous year. Harrington no doubt has the tools. Not only is Kevin Jones is going to make it much easier for him in the future, the duo of wideouts Roy Williams & Charles Rogers on the field at the same time, which obviously wasn't a factor last year due to Rogers' injury, is going to be ridiculously unfair to defending secondaries........

Hatche,
Another thing I have noticed over the years is, I have said the same thing in how without the injuries, this Team would be great, put a future on and the same injuries surface again and again.

Winbet, I agree. Losing Charles Rogers has been huge. That guy is almost uncoverable and draws more than one defender by himself. Think what it will be like when & if he and Roy Williams are on the field at the same time. Throw in gamebreaker Kevin Jones in the backfield and you have yourself one potent offense. But, their defense will be the key factor......

If Brees can make the strides he did in one year then why can't Harrington? I wouldn't bet on it, but it's certainly a possibility.

They will be overrated again, you watch. The O/U on wins was all the way up to 6.5 and they came up short and I wouldn't be surprised to see a 8.5 next year. They have some decent talent in the skill positions, which correlates to getting overrated. No team in the NFL wins without good line play and the Lions weren't very good in that area.

If you look for a sleeper that made strides along the lines and could do so again, look at the Cards. They had mostly mediocre talent in the skill positions, but focused on upgrading the line play on both sides of the ball. I think a little more help on the D-line and maybe a little more depth on the O-line and this team could finally win a division title considering the weak competition they have. Most will just waste time concentrating on the lousy QB choices they have, but get young guys some protection and a running game, and they will do a credible job in the NFL.

I got them at +17000 to win the Superbowl at Pinny a week ago. Pretty sweet odds...unlikely, but sweet.

Harrington may not be the Lions starting QB next season.
