------------------------------------------------------------------------

the rest is about campaign strategy, polling, personality, style?

are you kidding me? Not even I thought it was that shallow.

Lets see, so if you're the candidate long on personality and short on substance, isn't this what you really want?

the media checklist:

1) make the news that best favors Obama
2) don't dissect Obama's policy
3) don't dig into Obama's past
4) look for all the dirt you can find on Palin & even Cindy now
5) Report Obama's positions using Obama's spin
6) Report McCain's positions using Obama's spin
7) Give Obama net positive coverage
8) Give McCain horrific negative coverage (4 to 1 ratio)
9) Use Obama's talking points when reporting on an issue
10) Donate to Obama
11) vote for Obama

That oughta do it.

Hey BO, just let us know what else you might need :103631605

Willie on the other hand what portion of McCain's campaign is policy?

How would anyone know his policy? He changes it with the 1st negative poll.

Is this part of the conspiracy? I love you guys so quick to laugh at people who talk about corruption and cover ups in the government but are first to cry about the big bad liberal media. Its all a sham Willie, wake up man. The funny thing is your only saying this because its not favoring your candidate. Typical selfish American. These candidates are a sham, that are going to do nothing to help this country, when will you open your eyes?

Pew's own conclusions:

Horse race reporting, once again, made up the majority of coverage, but less so than earlier in the contest or than in previous elections. Since the conventions ended, 53% of the newshole studied has focused on political matters, particularly tactics, strategy and polling. That is more than twice as much as the coverage focused on policy (20%). This focus on tactics and horse race grew in the last three weeks as both campaigns became more negative in their rhetoric.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

What the findings also reveal is the reinforcing—rather than press-generated—effects of media. We see a repeating pattern here in which the press first offers a stenographic account of candidate rhetoric and behavior, while also on the watch for misstatements and gaffes. Then, in a secondary reaction, it measures the political impact of what it has reported. This is magnified in particular during presidential races by the prevalence of polling and especially daily tracking. While this echo effect exists in all press coverage, it is far more intense in presidential elections, with the explosion of daily tracking polls, state polls, poll aggregation sites and the 24-hour cable debate over their implications. Even coverage of the candidate’s policy positions and rhetoric, our reading of these stories suggest, was tied to horse race and took on its cast.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

the press creates the story and then measures their impact

brilliance at work

Fletch, we'll never have honesty in politics until the enablers are put out of business.

Part One, I don't know. Do you have a study you'd like to cite pertaining to McCain's campaign? If not, maybe you can do your own and get back to me.

Part two, you mean like the way Obama just tweaked his tax cutting program after people starting shedding some light on it? How many economic policies has BO had in the last 6 months? Nine?
