Miami Heat OVER 50.5 wins (3 units)
I love this play and am making it my top ranking play for many reasons. The Heat have had a very nice offseason, adding Shaq, as well as many journeymen role players, including Damon Jones, Christian Laettner, Michael Doleac, and Wesley Peson. The Heat have improved from last season, when they compiled a record of 42-40. A huge reason that I see this play having so much value is the home court advantage the Heat will have this year. Being a season ticket holder, I witnessed first hand how important the home court advantage can be as the Heat won 18 games in a row at the end of the season. They will have an even bigger home court advantage this year, as all the game will be sold out and will have a playoff like atmosphere. If the Heat can win 30 games at home, they will need to just play a little over .500 ball on the road to reach this total. Another huge reason as to why I think that the Heat will win more than 50 games is the new division in which they will be playing. The Heat are in the new Southeast Division of the Eastern Conference, which includes the Magic, Bobcats, Wizards, and Hawks. This means that the Heat will playing these teams at least 4 times each. This is surely the worst division in basketball. Also, behind the Heat, Pistons, and Pacers, the East is a confernce that includes many average teams as well as many bad teams. This only adds to the chance that the Heat will win more than 50 games. With a healthy Shaquille O'Neal and a budding superstar in Dwyane Wade, it is not unrealistic to think that this Heat team can come close to winning 60 games.
