Hi All,

I am a long time lurker here and at other forums, but I wanted to ask some of you a few Vegas questions. I hope you don't mind.

I am heading to Vegas and staying at the Golden Nugget.

My questions are as follows:

Is there a place downtown (Freemont St) where I can purchase beer like an ABC store?

What night spots in that area of the GN are good to pick up chicks? Any places to avoid?

Are there any clubs with live music?

What areas should I avoid in general during the day and or night? I've never once been down to Freemont St.

Are there any shopping malls/plazas within walking distance in or around Freemont St.?

What buffet's Breakfast/lunch/dinner do you recommend or should I avoid? Do any of the buffets have any crab legs on the menu?

Can someone recommend a good steak house that is reasonably priced?

Any decent attractions I should check out in the Freemont St area?

Can you drink beer outside in the Freemont St area like you can on the Strip?

Any tips/advice/info that you can pass along re: GN or Freemont St. area would be helpful to me.

Some quick answers:

* What night spots in that area of the GN are good to pick up chicks? Any places to avoid?

Downtown is not the area for trying to pick up women. The Beauty Bar near the El Cortez is about as good as it gets, but the pickup scene is on the Strip.

-----

* Are there any clubs with live music?

Live music, yes. But mostly crappy live music. If you're looking for something other than a no-name bar band, you'll need to pay money for a ticket to a joint on the Strip.

* What areas should I avoid in general during the day and or night? I've never once been down to Freemont St.

-----

* Are there any shopping malls/plazas within walking distance in or around Freemont St.?

The major shopping areas are on and near the Strip. Downtown is pretty much all about gambling.

-----

* What buffet's Breakfast/lunch/dinner do you recommend or should I avoid? Do any of the buffets have any crab legs on the menu?

Main Street Station. Great buffet.

-----

* Can someone recommend a good steak house that is reasonably priced?

Best balance I've found of price and quality is at Binion's.

-----

* Any decent attractions I should check out in the Freemont St area?

The Freemont Street Experience. That's about all there is Downtown.

-----

* Can you drink beer outside in the Freemont St area like you can on the Strip?

Yes.

-----

* Any tips/advice/info that you can pass along re: GN or Freemont St. area would be helpful to me.

There is one directly to the left from the Freemont exit/doorway, can't miss it.

They have all kinds of assorted stuff in there, nothing to write home about. But, it's a Vegas convience store open 24-7.

they sell liquor virtually everywhere in Vegas...hotel gift shops usually have some, but no matter where you are, you are within walking distance of bottled booze.

downtown > strip imo

Definitely. But not for a first visit. I think it's better to go to the Strip for a person's first trip, walk all up and down it to get the whole stereotypical "Vegas experience," then make Downtown your next trip destination if you're a real gambler.

If the point of a person's Vegas vacation is hanging out at cool pools and trying to score with chicks, Dowtown's never going to fill that bill, though.

From the GN sportsbook, the ABC Store on Fremont St was closer than the bar. Also, you could walk across the street to Binyon's and get $2 Corona's or Heineken. It was faster than waiting on the waitress.

Many thanks for the welcome Hache!!!

I'm actually a die hard hockey fan. To be honest, I couldn't name or pick out 99% of NFL players from a lineup.

I know the only reason I said that is because I never realized how many people don't have the means to do certain things.

I was reading on the board about something yesterday and I was shocked how many people had been very few places or something to that effect.
