It’s always great to end a football weekend with a winner, so it was very enjoyable watching the Patriots’ 14-10 victory over the Bills played in 20-degree temperatures and wind-chill in the teens from the 76-degree comfort of the Tuley’s Takes home office.
We hope our readers were with us on our recommended two-team, 6-point teaser play on the Patriots + 9/Under 47 (whether or not you were already alive from other teaser plays on Sunday). Neither side was ever in doubt. In fact, our only regret (well, in addition to wishing we had bet more!!!) is that we didn’t just go ahead and do a straight parlay with the Pats/Over for a higher payoff (usually around 13-5 for a two-team parlay).
Let’s get to the general recaps across the sports betting landscape on Monday night, including an update of the leaders in the Circa Sports Million and Westgate SuperContests, plus Circa Survivor for those who didn’t catch the update yesterday.
And then we’ll offer up another best bet for Tuesday.
Monday’s recaps
NFL:
Patriots (3-point road underdogs and + 126 on the money line) outlasted the Bills 14-10 on a cold, windy Monday night in Buffalo to wrap up NFL Week 13 and stay atop the AFC East and hold onto the No. 1 seed in the AFC with five weeks to go. Faves ended up going 8-6 SU and ATS for the week. Road teams also ended up 8-6 SU and ATS while Unders led 9-5, including 3-0 in primetime games.
More NFL: On the season, faves lead 112-78-1 SU with 3 games closing pick-’em, but dogs lead 106-84-1 ATS (55.8 percent). Road teams lead 99-91-1 SU with 3 neutral-site games (Packers-Saints in Week 1, plus 2 London games) and 109-81-1 ATS (57.4 percent). Unders lead 109-83-2 (56.8 percent), with primetime Unders leading 22-16-1 after 1-8 start, meaning they’re 21-8-1 (72.4 percent) since that slow start.
CBB: Texas Southern, which entered the night winless at 0-7, upset No. 20 Florida 69-54 as a 24-point road underdog and + 1550 on the money line at the South Point in Las Vegas and 1600 at DraftKings sportsbooks in other states. Meanwhile, No. 14 Houston routed Alcorn State 77-45, but did NOT cover after closing as a 33.5-point home favorite.
NBA: Faves went 7-3 SU on Monday, but dogs led 6-4 ATS as the Hornets (+ 7.5 vs. 76ers), Cavaliers (+ 8.5 at Bucks) and Spurs (+ 7 at Suns) covered in SU losses. Outright upsets were by the Thunder (+ 3 at Pistons), Grizzlies (+ 6 at Heat) and Hawks (+ 2 at Timberwolves). Overs went 5-4-1 on the night with the push on Cavaliers-Bucks (216), but Unders still lead 194-164-5 (54.2 percent) on the season.
NHL: Faves went 5-1 on Monday with the lone upset by the Senators (+ 160 in a 3-2 shootout win at the Devils). Over/Unders split 3-3 on the night.
Contest Corner
For those who missed it on Sunday: Circa Survivor is down to 23 live entries after 5 were eliminated with the Vikings' 29-27 loss to the Lions on Sunday. Four had the Chiefs on Sunday Night Football to advance along with those on the Eagles (10), Dolphins (3), Bucs (3), Cardinals (2) and Colts (1) earlier in the day.
HANNIBAL BARCA (who led Circa Sports Million earlier this season) went 5-0 in Week 13 to move into a first-place tie with JJarvis117 at 46-19 (70.8 percent) with 5 weeks to go in the contest. HANNIBAL BARCA-3 is also in a 4-way tie for 3rd place at 45-20 with Letter X, Mad Russian and OG4LIFE.
Circa Sports Million Top 5 Most-Selected Teams went 2-3 in Week 13 (35-30 on the season) with the Bills -2.5 losing on MNF along with the Bengals -3 vs. Chargers and Broncos + 9.5 at Chiefs. The wins were by the Dolphins -4 vs. Giants (the No. 1 choice) and Washington + 2.5 at Raiders.
SuperContest leader FREE TIM TEBOW went 4-1 in Week 13 to improve to 43-20-2 (68.3 percent), a half-point ahead of NOMSNAIGANSKK at 43-21-1. SuperContest Gold leader CALABASAS WISE GUY went 2-3 and still leads at 42-21-2 (66.7 percent), but THE PROGNASTICATOR 2 has pulled with a half-point at 42-22-1.
SuperContest Top 5 went 3-2 in Week 13 (30-34-1 on season) as Bills -3 lost along with DEN + 9.5. Wins were by the Dolphins-4, Colts -9 and Steelers + 4.5 (No. 6 choice as No. 5 was the Patriots, the Bills’ opponent). SuperContest Gold Top 5 went 4-1 (36-30-2) with Patriots + 3 coming through on MNF.
Tuesday’s Take
Spurs + 2.5 vs. the Knicks:
The Spurs had their four-game winning streak snapped Monday night in a 108-104 loss at the Suns, but they covered as 7-point road dogs for their fifth straight cover. They’re now back home and host the Knicks, who are on a three-game losing streak. Considering each team’s recent form. I’m not sure why the Knicks are favored, but I’ll gladly take any points here.
