So I'm trying real hard to not get too excited about a 2 win team....but anyone who has followed my posts know that I have very close ties to this USM team, coaching staff, game plan stuff etc.
I have also been saying all along that USM is a better team than their record indicates. They are down to zero QB options and have gone strictly to the wildcat offense ran essentially by Frank Gore Jr. I think this has been a huge relief for this offense because pass blocking was definitely not a strength of theirs....suprisingly run offense has done very well for them.
USM's #1 receiver Jason Brownlee has NFL talent and may be more suited for that level than current Jaguar practice squad player and USM grad Tim Jones. He catches almost everything you throw at him and with the USM wildcat +1 offense it forces teams to single high safety on most formations.
FIU is a train wreck and I cannot imagine they have much motivation going into USM to finish up a horrid season with a dissapointing season from top to bottom. They are giving up nearly 500 yards per contest and have yet to put up a decent performance on the road.
Coach Butch Davis and FIU's AD have both resigned and rumors about the school admin "sabotaging" the program have been circulating for weeks. The players found out about coach Davis' exit thru a press release....he didnt even address his team with his quitting.
On the other side of the coin USM's players have found a new life - they are excited and optimistic about what's finally transpiring w a talented coach Hall who is a players coach 100%. They have a solid defense as well as special teams, and the O line absolutely loves running this offense. Surprisingly Gore has a pretty damn good passing arm and has thrown several nice passes. Jason Brownlee has been single covered and I expect him to make some plays against a bottom dwellar pass defense.
These teams could not be farther apart at the current time and for the former athletes in here - you understand what that means. Throw in Senior night in Hattiesburg and and I see a route from start to finish.
The line has moved from 10.5 to 13.5 and I dont see it moving back - I dont care what it is I think USM gets the win in fashion tomorrow and would be comfortable up to -20....only reason I wouldn't go higher is just knowing USM will grind this game and ball control it to death. I am making a variety of plays on this one but for this post I give you my 5* BANGER of the year with USM -13.5
