Let's put it this way.

If, like in the playground days, we could pick any tight end from any era to play on our team, I'm picking Gronk without hesitation. And I've seen them all.

I call him Gronkmonster for a reason. When he's healthy he's the best receiving weapon in the game. And like somebody already said, if he's asked to block he does a great job at that too. Unselfish and willing. And always credits his teammates. Intangibles count too.

Brady is not better than Rodgers talent wise...Just like the NBA players of today. No hand checking and rules made it almost laughable to score. You think James would average what he does if the old rules were in effect. It's not James nor Brady's fault, it's the time line in which they are playing. Brady would not do 1/10th of what he does today if he played in the 80's-90's. Brady is one of the best of his time
No doubt Rodgers out talents Brady I’ll give you that. But Brady so far has been the much better QB. He’s won 5 Super Bowls, multiple SB MVPs, in line for another regular season MVP this year. And he’s done it all with different players year in and year out. Something the guys of the 80’s never had to deal with. Montana - Marino had the same talent year in year out. So Brady has been great with whoever you threw out there with him.
I think that that goes a lon way.

My question to you is, since the game has been this way for over a decade now, what’s the problem with all the other guys who played in this era? Why aren’t they as good with the same rules? Why has Brady dominated over all these other guys? More wins, better stats. I mean there is no comparison in this era. Especially since he passed Manning a few years ago.

I actually think it’s a knock on Rodgers if he has more “talent” than Brady. What’s his excuse for not doing what Brady has done??

I think it’s obvious to say defenses have come a long way since the 80’s. Guys are faster, stronger and more prepared than ever. Tough to beat if you ask me and Brady/Gronk make it look real easy.

How do you define talent? Brady has been his best at crunch time, Mr clutch his whole career. If that doesn't factor into the
definition of talent, then I don't understand talent.

Well he has a rocket arm, stronger than Brady’s if you ask me. He also can scramble much better.
But clutch-ness goes to Brady. So does just about everything else.

What gets overlooked or weighted insignificantly is Brady's ability to stay focused on finding his open receiver down field despite all the assassins targeting him. He steps up in the pocket like no one else. He knows when to unload the ball, but never panics. He reads defenses before the ball is snapped. He demands precision out of his receivers. And has the complete respect of all his teammates and coaches. He is the consummate leader. Intangibles interpret to winning stats and games.

Considering he is the most difficult 1 on 1 matchup in NFL since Randy Moss, yeah, Gronk is best TE ever.

Defensive coordinators didn't spend weeks designing gameplans to shut down Gonzalez or Sharpe like they do Gronk. Both guys had incredible careers and will have better career stats but Gronk is a better football player than both.

Witten will make HoF due to sticking around for so many years and catching a bunch of check downs but he is not a HoF player.

Just about every pitcher in MLB threw the ball faster than Tom Glavine

Scrambling? when did that becoming effective? Did Marino or Manning scramble?

Being a better FOOTBALL PLAYER goes to Brady

Please don’t put Aaron Rodgers in the same sentence with Tom Brady. Rodgers is 34 years old and his career is looking smaller and smaller every day. He has fewer Super Bowl appearances than Peyton Manning, Eli Manning, Russell Wilson and Ben Roethlisberger. He has the same amount of Super Bowl appearances as Joe Flacco, Matt Ryan, and Cam Newton.

He's in the mix, and that's all one can really argue

I agree....someone mentioned talent, I should have stated physical ability. Rodgers has more physical ability then Brady.
But the better QB and Football player is Brady 100%, I thought I was clear on that.

Gronk, like Brady, is partly a product of today's can't-touch-him rules. Neither is even close to the GOAT.

You cannot compare different eras because of different rules, training, vitamins, drugs etc etc. That being said Gronk dominates his era like no other! Even if his team is privy to the other teams plays, his size, skills are unmatched by any tight end! He can catch like a receiver, run like a fullback, and block like a linemen! Mike Ditka is the only TE who compares to Gronk's dominance. Gronk most dominate, Ditka a close second!
