MANHATTAN -101 over Rider
9:00 PM EST. This an optimal time to target an attack against an overvalued road team. Getting lucky against weak competition has been the hallmark of Rider all season long, as they have played the 312th ranked schedule in terms of SOS while sporting the 3rd ranked luck quotient in all the land. Riders toughest opponent this year is who? N.C. State? They lost that one by 28 points. UMass? They lost to the Minutemen by 11. The Broncs' schedule features games against cupcakes and a couple of slightly above average teams and that is it. They have not played a ranked team all season long. However, since defeating Monmouth on the road in overtime on New Year’s Eve, the Broncs have been playing with fury and smashing teams with a vengeance. Rider has won their two follow-up contests since while covering significantly as a favorite in both. What this does is essentially inflate the stock of the Broncs and set them up to be torpedoed by an unsuspecting foe such as the Jaspers. Just to recap, Rider is an 11-5 MAAC team that is spotting a small price to a 6-11 conference enemy. There’s that proverbial carrot again.
Manhattan might be the better team here. If not, it’s damn close and we have home court working for us. The Jaspers have also played a much tougher schedule than the Broncs, which includes games against Temple, West Virginia and Florida State. One common out-of-conference opponent that these two both met was Fordham. The Jaspers beat the Rams, 60-53 while the Broncs lost to the Rams by 11, 73-62. Manhattan lost to Temple, West Virginia and Florida State but they were able to hang 67 points on both the Owls and Seminoles. In this sport, records can be very misleading, which helps our cause because records influence the market. Rider is a team with one of the worst efficiency ratings (ranked 262nd) in the land, meaning they need more possessions to score the same amount of points than most of their opponents. Be that today is Friday the 13th, the Broncs have already walked under too many ladders and have broken too many mirrors for their luck to hold up much longer. Wrong side favored.
