The Houston Astros and general manager James Click parted ways after the World Series-winning executive rejected a one-year contract offer, the club announced Friday.

Click, whom the Astros hired in February 2020 to replace Jeff Luhnow, was seeking a new contract after his deal ended Oct. 31.

"We are grateful for all of James' contributions," Astros owner Jim Crane said in a press release. "We have had great success in each of his three seasons, and James has been an important part of that success. I want to personally thank him and wish him and his family well moving forward."

Click led the Astros to a pair of World Series appearances in three seasons, including a title in 2022. However, the top executive and Crane reportedly had a strained workplace relationship, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.

The 44-year-old Click becomes the first World Series-winning executive to not return to his club for the following season since New York Yankees general manager Larry MacPhail resigned 75 years ago, according to ESPN's Alden Gonzalez.

The Astros also fired assistant general manager Scott Powers, sources told Jeff Passan of ESPN. Click hired Powers, who spent time with the Los Angeles Dodgers, in January.
