OwnersBox Review – Real Money Weekly Fantasy Contests

BY The RX
Saturday, May 6, 2023

OwnersBox is an ambitious startup that allows sports fans to compete in weekly fantasy contests. The company pitches its challenges as a happy medium between season-long contests and the more concentrated action at DFS sites such as DraftKings and FanDuel. The website and mobile app cover the NFL, NHL, MLB and NBA, providing lots of chances to win cash prizes each week.

This OwnersBox fantasy sports review explains how the contests work and breaks down the types of events you can enter. We will also highlight the promos on offer, the banking methods and the jurisdictions in which it is available. Keep reading to learn more about OwnersBox.

How does OwnersBox work?

This Ontario-based company was founded in 2019. It eventually launched its first contests towards the end of 2020 after securing $1.7 million in a seed round. The idea is to bridge the gap between daily fantasy contests at DraftKings and FanDuel and the more traditional, season-long events. OwnersBox aims to popularize the term WFS (weekly fantasy sports) and carve out a niche in the growing trend for fantasy sites.

Members of the OwnersBox player pool pay an entry fee to take part in a contest. You start out by building a 10-player roster within the specified salary game and game limits. Players can then manage that roster throughout the week, making strategic trades in a bid to boost their chances of success. Each contest has its own payout structure, with prize pools determined by the popularity of the contest.

The best-performing players win real cash prizes, and you can check out the contest information card for details on the distribution. There are tournaments at OwnersBox and Head-2-Head events. Either way, the format is the same: join a contest, pick a roster, manage your lineup and aim to win prizes. You can compete via an accessible website or the mobile app, which is available for download through the App Store or Google Play.

What leagues are available on this fantasy sports platform?

OwnersBox is still a relative newcomer to the market, so it only offers fantasy sports contests on the four major leagues:

  • NFL
  • NBA
  • MLB
  • NHL

It may add additional sports and leagues in the future. The most obvious options would be college football and college basketball, followed perhaps by golf, tennis, soccer, UFC, NASCAR and esports.

The rosters vary by sport, but you always need to pick 10 players:

NFL: 1 quarterback, 2 running backs, 2 wide receivers, 1 tight end, 1 kicker, 3 defensive positions

NBA: 2 point guards, 2 shooting guards, 2 small forwards, 2 power forwards, 2 centers

MLB: 1 catcher, 1 first baseman, 1 second baseman, 1 shortstop, 1 third baseman (3B), 3 outfielders, 2 pitchers

NHL: 5 forwards, 3 defense, 2 goalies

Types of Contests & Games

There are two main types of contests at OwnersBox:

Tournaments: If you take part in a tournament, you will receive a $200,000 budget to draft a 10-man lineup and compete for a guaranteed prize pool. In general, around 25% of entrants in these public contests receive a payout. Prizes are paid at the end of these seven-day contests. There are opportunities to swap players in and out of your lineups throughout the contest, but you will be charged a 20% fee of your dropped athlete’s remaining salary for doing so.

Head-to-head Contests: These contests take place over a span of one to four weeks, depending on the number of teams. At the start of the contest, you will take part in a snake draft, which will be familiar to anyone that plays season-long fantasy sports. This ensures that there is no overlap between the players selected. In a one-week contest, there is a winner-takes-all prize. The two-week, three-week, and four-week contests follow a single elimination bracket format, with the winner each week receiving a prize and moving on to the next round. The overall contest winner takes home the majority of the pot, which is compiled via contest entry fees.

You can also take part in fun Lightning Lineup contests, which are quick and simple. There are private contests too, plus sponsored contests, beginner-only contests, OwnersBucks contests and group contests.

OwnersBox Banking Methods

Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express are all available as deposit methods at OwnersBox. It accepts credit cards and debit cards. You can also send a direct bank transfer to fund your account. The minimum deposit is $10 and the maximum deposit limit for fantasy players is $1,000. Deposits are instant and free.

When it is time to cash out your money, you can opt for an online bank transfer or a check. It will process withdrawal requests within five business days. Once again, there are no fees to pay. Rivals offer more banking methods, such as PayPal, Play+ cards and eChecks, so we could see OwnersBox broaden out its offering in the future.

OwnersBox Bonus Code & Promo Offers

You will receive a two-part welcome bonus when you create an account with OwnersBox:

• A $20 no-deposit bonus on the house

• 100% deposit match bonus worth up to $500 in OwnersBucks

Just click through to OwnersBox using the link provided in this review to redeem your sign-up package today. You will receive $20 in free contest entries – $10 for a Lightning Lineups event and $10 for a SuperFlex DFS contest. Then make a minimum deposit of $10, and OwnersBox will match this initial deposit with site credit, up to a maximum of $500, in OwnersBucks.

OwnersBucks are loyalty points at OwnersBox. All promo codes have a 3:1 playthrough requirement before you can withdraw. That means eligible players will need to spend $30 in entry fees to withdraw $10, as an example.

Players continue to earn OwnersBucks via promotions, by entering contests and by winning OwnersBucks contests. You can convert them to real money when you pay entry fees. The rate at which they convert depends upon the level you fall into:

  • Rookie: 0-9 contests played
  • Pro: 10-51 contests
  • Veteran: 52-159 contests
  • Hall-of-Famer: 160-319 contests
  • Hall-of-Famer Tier 2: 320-479 contests
  • Hall-of-Famer Tier 3: 480-639 contests
  • Hall-of-Famer Tier 4: 640-999 contests
  • GOAT: 1000+ contests

Your conversion rate begins at 1% and increases by 0.5% each time you move up to a new tier, eventually reaching 4.5% for GOATs.
