UFC in Vegas 39 Main Event Prediction
Marina Rodriguez vs. Mackenzie Dern
UFC Women’s Strawweight Bout
Saturday, October 09, 2021 – 10:05 PM EDT at Apex Centre
This weekend’s main event of the evening will see #5 ranked strawweight Mackenzie Dern and her opponent #6 ranked Marina Rodriguez compete for a more excellent UFC ranking and get even closer to competing for UFC gold.
Mackenzie Dern (11-1-0) is known for her elite Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu prowess; as a former #1 ranked BJJ competitor, we can argue that she’s the most skilled Jiu-Jitsu practitioner amongst all UFC martial artists.
A near-perfect professional record of 11-1 has provided just one setback during her career, as the takedown defense and striking output of Amanda Ribas were too much to handle.
Marina Rodriguez (14-1-2) isn’t a lifelong martial artist like her opponent this weekend, and it’s even crazier to think that her professional MMA debut took place just six years ago. But despite this fact, Rodriguez possesses a Muay Thai skillset that’s delivered six knockout victories – a high number of stoppages that isn’t usually found amongst strawweight fighters.
Rodriguez vs. Dern Fight Analysis
What an incredible main event we get to witness this weekend, both ladies have delivered countless entertaining bouts during their careers, and now they’ll face off. The problematic aspect is when attempting to make a prediction.
Naturally, the former number 1 ranked BJJ artist in Dern will want this fight on the ground, but should she fail to get it there, she’ll struggle to handle the kickboxing offense of Rodriguez.
With that said, I see betting value in anticipating this fight to end inside the distance. If Rodriguez is grounded, she’ll likely wind up submitting to one of Dern’s limb-snapping submissions. On the flip side, if Dern remains standing, there’s a great chance her striking defense won’t be enough to avoid a technical knockout from the Brazilian.

UFC in Vegas 39 Co-Main Event Prediction
Randy Brown vs. Jared Gooden
UFC Welterweight Bout
Apex Centre
Randy Brown (13-4-0) returns to the cage following an impressive one-armed rear-naked choke finish over Alex Oliveira. A continued evolving skillset of “Rude Boy” Brown has surprisingly been handed an unranked opponent in Jared Gooden.
Jared Gooden (18-6-0) is no slouch, and his right cross knockout finish in his last bout proved some doubters wrong. However, despite owning a more considerable pro record than Brown, his UFC experience is far behind his opponent.
Brown vs. Gooden Fight Analysis
Respect Gooden for his confidence heading into this weekend’s contest, and we can’t blame him after that impressive knockout win he’s coming off. However, the diversity of Randy Brown’s skill set and his multiple paths to victory exceed the knockout potential of Gooden.
Bookmakers are heavily favoring Brown for a reason, and I’m in complete agreement that he’s the deserving favorite in this MMA bout.
