Curtis Blaydes vs. Chris Daukaus

UFC Heavyweight Main Event Bout

Saturday, March 26, 2022 – 10:00 PM EDT at Nationwide Arena

Curtis Blaydes

  • – Professional MMA Record: 15-3-0
  • – Knockout Record: 10-3
  • – Submission Record: 0-0
  • – SIG Strikes Landed Per Minute: 3.44
  • – SIG Strike Accuracy: 62.27%
  • – Takedown Average: 6.27
  • – Takedown Accuracy: 53.91%
  • – Submission Average: 0.00

Chicago representative Curtis Blaydes has had the unfortunate task of meeting the fight-ending power of current heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou on two occasions. If we neglect these losses and the mishap Blaydes had when facing Derrick Lewis, we’ve got a heavyweight fighter who’s been unstoppable on our hands.

Blaydes stems from a deep-routed wrestling background that saw him retire from the mats with a 95-18 record. He gave up wrestling to pursue mixed martial arts on a full-time basis, and since 2014 he’s been a force to be reckoned with on a professional level.

Chris Daukaus

  • – Professional MMA Record: 12-4-0
  • – Knockout Record: 11-3
  • – Submission Record: 0-1
  • – SIG Strikes Landed Per Minute: 7.71
  • – SIG Strike Accuracy: 54.69%
  • – Takedown Average: 0.00
  • – Takedown Accuracy: 0%
  • – Submission Average: 0.00

Since making his promotional debut under the UFC banner in 2020, retired police officer Chris Daukaus has delivered a consecutive streak of highlight-reel finished. Unfortunately, Daukaus was another fighter who succumbed to the devastating KO power of Derrick Lewis, but he’ll attempt to avenge this loss just three months out.

Daukaus is known to be a skilled jiu-jitsu artist, but you’d never recognize these skills by watching his most recent bouts. The Philadelphia-born Martinez BJJ stand-out loves to let his fists fly, with an impressive 11 knockout finishes from 12 professional victories.

Blaydes vs. Daukaus Fight Analysis and UFC Columbus Betting Odds

Sportsbooks have laid the UFC odds in favor of Blaydes, and it’s challenging to disagree. The obvious reason for these odds is the elite-level wrestling that Blaydes has at his disposal.

Secondly, Blaydes’ UFC experience has seen him face the most elite heavyweights on the planet. Daukaus could be classed as a significant step down in competition.

I don’t envision Daukaus surviving the takedown attempts, followed by some vicious ground and pound to finish the fight inside the distance.

UFC Columbus Betting Pick: Blaydes to Win by KO/TKO (-110) at DraftKings

Joanne Wood vs. Alexa Grasso

UFC Women’s Flyweight Co-Main Event Bout

Saturday, March 26, 2022 – 10:00 PM EDT at Nationwide Arena

Joanne Wood

  • – Professional MMA Record: 15-7-0
  • – Knockout Record: 5-0
  • – Submission Record: 1-4
  • – SIG Strikes Landed Per Minute: 6.71
  • – SIG Strike Accuracy: 57.51%
  • – Takedown Average: 1.57
  • – Takedown Accuracy: 55.17%
  • – Submission Average: 0.39

36-year-old Scottish lass Joanne Wood returns to the octagon on Saturday in an attempt to break a 2-fight losing skid, but after losing 4 of her previous 6 fights, there’s no denying the British fighter’s cards are stacked against her.

I’m unsure if Wood is on an overall career decline because of her age or if the level of competition inside the top-10 has been too much. Either way, the muay thai striking background that’s assisted her professional MMA career should never be underestimated.

Alexa Grasso

  • – Professional MMA Record: 13-3-0
  • – Knockout Record: 4-0
  • – Submission Record: 0-1
  • – SIG Strikes Landed Per Minute: 4.96
  • – SIG Strike Accuracy: 52.22%
  • – Takedown Average: 0.28
  • – Takedown Accuracy: 40.00%
  • – Submission Average: 0.56

Mexican-born Alexa Grasso has enjoyed her stint inside the UFC octagon thus far, with a 5-3 record since joining the promotion in 2016. She’s currently riding a 2-fight win streak and aged just 28; an evolving skillset can be found fight-to-fight.

Losses to Tatiana Suarez and the former champion Carla Esparza are two losses on Grasso’s record that she has nothing to be ashamed of; she’s gained valuable cage experience at an early age and has the potential to become a future title challenger.

Wood vs. Grasso Fight Analysis and UFC Columbus Betting Odds

The available UFC odds are siding with Grasso because Wood hasn’t looked as lively in her recent bouts. Perhaps the married life affects Wood, as since her name changed from Calderwood to Wood, her record is 1-3.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Wood possessed a higher output in this bout, but Grasso’s aggressiveness, power, and youth will become the winning factor for our second UFC pick.
