The Reds beat Tottenham home and away last season, despite missing several key defenders through injury. They will have to channel that spirit on Sunday, as they will be without Virgil Van Dijk and Fabinho, both of whom have tested positive for Covid-19.

Liverpool Aim to Extend Winning Streak

Liverpool has bossed the recent head-to-head with Tottenham, and it is also on a terrific run of form right now. It has won eight games in a row in all competitions, and it is up to second in the Premier League table, just one point behind leader Man City.

Its last game was on Thursday night, when goals from Diogo Jota, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold handed it a 3-1 win over Newcastle.

It went 1-0 down through an early thunderbolt from Jonjo Shelvey, but they dominated the rest of the game. Liverpool remains the top-scoring team in the Premier League this season, and it has the third-best defensive record.

Tottenham Must Shake Off the Rust

It has been more than two weeks since Spurs last played, as their games against Burnley and Leicester were called off following a Covid-19 outbreak.

Multiple sites have reported that Son Heung-Min, Lucas Moura, Emerson Royal and Oliver Skipp are among the players to have tested positive for Covid.

Liverpool has played three times since Tottenham’s last game, so the Spurs may lack sharpness in the opening stages, but it could have more energy in the second half, as the Reds will have to deal with fatigue.

Tottenham is currently seventh in the table, 15 points behind Liverpool, but it does have three games in hand.

It has already fired manager Nuno Espirito Santo this season after a poor run of results. Replacement Antonio Conte has led Spurs to victory in their last three Premier League games, but those wins came against teams in the bottom half of the table – Leeds, Brentford and Norwich – and it may struggle to repeat the feat against this talented Liverpool team, which has won every meeting with Tottenham since 2018.

Team News

It appears doubtful that Son, Moura, Emerson and Skipp will feature in this game, but they may be included if they test negative and pass a late fitness test.

Defender Cristian Romero is injured, but left-back Sergio Reguilon is on the brink of a return, as is playmaker Giovani Lo Celso.

If Son and Moura are unavailable, Steven Bergwijn and Dele Alli could support Harry Kane in the attack.

Roberto Firmino is now back from injury, so he is vying with Jota for a place in the attack, alongside Salah and Sadio Mané for Liverpool.

Manager Jurgen Klopp could stick with a midfield trio of Jordan Henderson, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Thiago Alcântara in Fabinho’s absence, but James Milner and Naby Keïta provide alternative options.

Joel Matip, Ibrahima Konaté and Joel Matip should start in defense. They looked pretty solid against Newcastle, but they may not be able to contain Kane for 90 minutes. Both teams to score paid off in both games between these teams last season, and it could be a good soccer pick again in this game.

It will not be easy for Liverpool, but the Reds are in fine form right now, and they should be able to secure another win against Tottenham.
