Wolverhampton Wanderers FC vs. Liverpool FC

Saturday, February 4, 2023 – 10:00 AM EST at Molineux Stadium

Wolverhampton

Wolverhampton Wanderers have struggled on the domestic front this season, as they sit in 17th position, just three points clear of basement dwellers Southampton.

However, after facing Liverpool twice last month in back-to-back FA Cup clashes, Julen Lopetegui will be hopeful of taking at least 1 point from Liverpool after holding the Reds to just one goal the last time they visited Molineux.

Unfortunately, positive Premier League results have been rare for the Wanderers this season, having won just 4 of their last 20 outings. And with 11 losses to their name, they look destined to continue a relegation battle until the final week of this term.

Liverpool

Liverpool hasn’t delivered the results of a top-six club thus far, and as the expected title challengers for Manchester City’s title pre-season, results have been incredibly underwhelming.

The Reds suffered defeat at the hands of Brighton & Hove Albion in the FA Cup last weekend, a result that saw Jurgen Klopp’s losing record to the Seagulls extend to 0-2 in 2023.

Furthermore, Klopp and company have won just one of their last six games in all competitions. And with just eight wins obtained from 20 EPL meetings, Liverpool is threatened with a failure to advance into European competition next term.

Pick and Prediction

Wolves are currently the lowest-scoring side in the EPL (12), averaging just 0.60 goals per game on home turf. Low-scoring affairs are commonplace at Molineux, as we’ve witnessed under 2.5 goals in the previous six Wolverhampton home games.

Considering the less-than-desirable form of each squad, we expect another low-scoring 90 minutes for the home side, with Liverpool owning the slight advantage in terms of victory.

Borussia Dortmund vs. SC Freiburg

Saturday, January 4, 2023 – 09:30 AM EST at Signal Iduna Park

Freiburg

Sitting level on 34 points with their weekend opponents and just three points shy of table toppers Bayern Munich, fifth-placed Bundesliga side Freiburg faces the daunting task of visiting the Signal Iduna Park and a Borussia Dortmund side who’ll do everything they can to prevent the Breisgau Brazilians from taking their position in the table.

The winter break hasn’t done Freiburg any favors, as they’ve continually battled with finding consistency – claiming one win, one draw, and one loss in domestic action.

A 6-0 dismantling at the hands of Wolfsburg wasn’t the New Year result they’d hoped for, but we can’t neglect Freiburg’s five outings before the World Cup that involved four victories and twelve points gained.

Borussia Dortmund

Dortmund made great use of the winter break, recouped, and returned to Bundesliga action in 2023 with three consecutive wins. They’ve now won 6 of their last 8 domestic meetings and 11 games from the 18 matchdays that have been played this term domestically.

Goal-scoring has been second nature for Dortmund in 2022/23. This squad has scored at least one goal from their last 25 Bundesliga home games, and we shouldn’t expect them to continue this trend on Saturday.

Pick and Prediction

In pursuit of the first-place position in the Bundesliga table, a place that’s obtainable with just three points, we can expect both squads to battle until the very end, which will produce goals!

On paper, Dortmund has won 4 of their last 6 meetings with Freiburg, with over 2.5 goals landing in five of those games. 16 goals have been netted over the previous four times these two sides have met, with both teams scoring during those last four clashes.
