The Detroit Tigers have struggled against right-handed pitching recently. Over the last month, the Tigers have hit a .123 ISO and wOBA of .315 against righties.
They’ll face Zack Greinke, who has limited walks and line drives and has earned nearly 49% of ground balls. Righties are only hitting a .265 wOBA and ISO of .140 against Greinke. Overall, Greinke doesn’t give up many extra-base hits.
Kansas City Royals
On the other hand, Matt Boyd will get the start for the Tigers. The lefty has a 5.73 xFIP over the last 30 days and has earned under 30% of ground balls.
Boyd has watched righties hit a .361 wOBA and ISO of .222 in his last 87 plate appearances against righties. The Royals are hitting a .217 ISO and wOBA of .375 against lefties over the last 30 days. They’ve got five batters hitting an ISO of at least .238 against righties and have way more potential at the plate.

Miami Marlins vs. Colorado Rockies

Miami Marlins
Karl Kauffmann will make his second appearance in the MLB. He allowed seven hits and four runs in 4.1 innings of work against the Texas Rangers in his first major league start. Righties hit a .716 wOBA and ISO of .500 against Kauffman.
The Marlins don’t have the same type of offense as the Rangers. But Kauffmann is unproven, going up against a former Cy Young in a high-altitude ballpark. It’s not looking good for Kauffmann.
Colorado Rockies
Meanwhile, Sandy Alcantara has a 4.22 xFIP with 24.6% of strikeouts over the last 30 days. He’s been pitching well until his final innings late in the game. But overall, he’s still putting up outstanding numbers. He’s got high-ground balls and low-line drives and has limited extra bases from both sides.
Alcantara isn’t getting the best results, but those results are coming. He should be able to do enough to hold Colorado and help the Marlins earn a win.

Boston Red Sox vs. Los Angeles Angels

The Boston Red Sox will face Tyler Anderson tonight. He’s a lefty with a 5.27 ERA and xFIP of 6.52 in the last 30 days. Anderson has low strikeouts and high walks and gives up over 24% of line-drive contact when balls are put into play.
He’s facing a Red Sox lineup with a .360 wOBA against lefties over the last 30 days. Six of the nine batters in the Red Sox lineup have at least a .361 wOBA against lefties. The projected lineup has also slugged 25.1% of line drives against lefties, thanks to Justin Turner and Rob Refsnyder, who have hit over 37% of line drives against lefties.
Los Angeles Angels
James Paxton will get the call for the Red Sox. He’s thrown against 44 batters this season and has an xFIP of 4.09 with 31.8% of strikeouts. He’s looking great for the Red Sox early on. Paxton has limited walks and has kept his wOBA down to .283 against righties.
Paxton, a lefty, will face at least eight batters from the right side tonight. However, with their projected lineup, the Angels are hitting a .131 ISO and wOBA of .297 against lefties in the last month. Los Angeles has also walked 5.2% of the time with this lineup and has hit only 18.5% of line drives.
Therefore, I’m going to take the Red Sox on the moneyline. The oddsmakers have this game as a toss-up, but the analytics all point toward the Red Sox having the advantage tonight.
