Manchester City FC vs. Crystal Palace FC

Saturday, August 27, 2022 – 10:00 AM EDT at Etihad Stadium

Team News and Game Facts

Crystal Palace has four players absent from Saturday’s visit to the Etihad.

As the English soccer schedule heats up, Julian Alvarez is expected to make his City EPL debut.

Over 2.5 goals have been scored in Man City’s previous 8 EPL home games.

Man City have scored at least 2 goals in their last 12 Premier League appearances.

Manchester City Analysis

Will Old Habits Die Hard for the Citizens?

High-flying Manchester City began their 2022/23 EPL season as expected, dominating every team in front of them. However, last weekend saw Newcastle United test Pep Guardiola’s men, as the blue side of Manchester fell to a 3-1 deficit. They fought tough and nail to recover and left Tyne Side with a 3-3 draw, proving why they’re the champions of England.

After a rocky outing in Newcastle, Palace hopes to capitalize on City’s damaged confidence. But Guardiola won’t take his foot off the gas for a team in Palace who kept his squad from the scoresheet in last season’s meetings.

City failed to score home and away against Patrick Viera’s men last season and have only won 1 of their last 4 when facing the Eagles at home.

Crystal Palace Analysis

Slow Start for Palace

It’s been a slow beginning for Crystal Place in the 2022/23 EPL season thus far, having collected just four points from their first three games. However, they found their first season win last weekend at Aston Villa’s expense.

Last weekend’s success isn’t too much to brag about; Villa isn’t an intimidating squad and seems to be collapsing from all angles. This weekend’s game will be significantly more complex, and a midweek EFL Cup game could produce some tired legs.

Manchester City vs. Crystal Palace: Betting Odds and Best Bets

The available EPL odds at the best sportsbooks give Manchester City a massive probability of winning this contest, and disagreeing isn’t easy.

The Citizens’ lack of effort in front of Palace’s goal last term won’t roll over into the new season, especially at the Etihad. Notably, City has scored at least two goals in their last 12 EPL games since facing the Eagles – netting 40 goals during this time.

Palace can undoubtedly find a consolation goal, but not before Man City clip the Eagles’ wings and take another 3 points in their title-defending season.

Score Prediction: Man City 4 – Crystal Palace 1

Chelsea vs. Leicester City

Saturday, August 27, 2022 – 10:00 AM EDT at Stamford Bridge

Team News and Match Facts

• Kalidou Koulibaly is suspended following his red card last weekend.

• N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic are still sidelined for Chelsea.

• James Maddison is questionable for Leicester after taking a bump midweek.

• Leicester have conceded at least 2 goals in their previous 3 Premier League games.

• Chelsea are unbeaten in their previous 5 EPL fixtures.

Chelsea Analysis

Indifferent Beginnings for Chelsea’s 2022/23 EPL Campaign

Three games deep into the new EPL season, Chelsea fans would’ve hoped for more than 4 points and a 12th-placed position in the standings. More surprisingly, a relegation-threatened Leeds United squad from last term delivered a 3-0 hammering over Thomas Tuchel’s men on Matchday 3.

Opening their season with a 1-0 success over Everton and then returning against Tottenham to take a point from the London rivalry game showed a glimmer of hope. Unfortunately, last weekend’s embarrassment versus Leeds has shown the holes in this squad.

Tuchel will undoubtedly make more additions to this squad over the next week, as this Chelsea team looks like working progress. The transition period we’re witnessing at Stamford Bridge will need to solve their goal-scoring issues sooner rather than later.

Leicester City Analysis

James Maddison or Bust

Without the presence of James Madison, would Leicester have scored a single goal this term? Who knows. But the facts remain, as Maddison put his team on the scoresheet against Brentford, Arsenal, and Southampton. And this could be a concern after he’s questionable for this Saturday’s starting XI against Chelsea.

To make matters worse, Leicester has conceded 8 goals in just 3 EPL games this season, as the absence and need to replace defender Fofana is becoming evident.

Chelsea is in the process of purchasing Fofana as Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers isn’t using his defender’s services. As this will cause problems for both defenses on Saturday, we could witness a higher-scoring game than anticipated.

EPL Matchday 4 Betting Odds & Best Bets

The available Premier League odds expect Chelsea to succeed on home soil, but their vulnerabilities were exposed last week, and this is a huge red flag on a steep moneyline price.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see a high-scoring draw (2-2) play out on Saturday, as defensive issues for Tuchel are paired with a Leicester side hunting their first 3 points.

Score Prediction: Chelsea 2 – Leicester 2
