The Pittsburgh Steelers have won their last three games and are tied with Baltimore for the top spot in the AFC South. Today they look to stay there when they invade Ralph Wilson Stadium to rumble with the Buffalo Bills, who have won two of their last three games and are fighting for their playoff lives.
Vegas odds have the Steelers listed as 3 point favorites, while the total has been set at 45. This contest will be televised on CBS with a start time of 1:00 pm EST.
Breaking Down The Pittsburgh Steelers
The Pittsburgh Steelers have been a streaky team this year as they started out 4-1 and then they lost 4 games in a row, before winning their last 3 games. They are now tied atop the AFC North standing with Baltimore and are hoping to stay there with a win over a Buffalo team that is struggling at the moment. The offense has been very solid for the Steelers overall this year, but of late it has been their defense that has really stepped up as they have allowed just 251 ypg and 10 ppg in their last three games. If they keep playing like that on defense, then they just may be the only team that has a chance as stopping the Patriots from representing the AFC in the Super Bowl. Overall, Pittsburgh is now 14th in total defense, 20th vs the pass, 6th vs the run and 8th in points allowed, giving up just 19.7 ppg. They will clearly need that run defense to show up vs a very good Buffalo ground attack. On offense, the steelers have been solid as they come in ranked 11th in total yards, 7th in passing, 18th in rushing and 12th in scoring, putting up 24.2 ppg. They were a bit inconsistent earlier in the year, but have now averaged 26.5 ppg in their last four games. Big Ben is having another solid year as his QBR of 99.4 is 8th in the league.
Trends: The Steelers have gone 10-2 ATS in their last 12 games in December and 13-6-1 ATS in their last 20 games after accumulating more than 250 yards passing in their previous game. The Over is 4-0 in their last 4 games in Week 14, while the Under is 15-5-1 in their last 21 games following a ATS win.
Breaking Down The Buffalo Bills
The Buffalo Bills have had their struggles this year, but they come in having won two of their last three games to put themselves at 6-6 on the year and with an outside shot at a playoff berth. Their last game was a 14 point loss in Oakland in a game that they allowed 38 points in and now must try and slow down a hot Pittsburgh offense. This will not be easy. The Bills come in ranked 12th in total yards allowed, 8th vs the pass, 26th vs the run and 17th in points allowed, giving up 22.8 ppg. This is not a terrible defense and they can stop the pass, but if Pittsburgh gets their ground game going, then they could have trouble stopping the pass. On offense, the Bills have not been great. They can run the ball and have been led by LeSean McCoy, who has run for 849 yards, but the steelers excel at stopping the run and the Bills don’t have a great passing attack. Buffalo may need to finds some creative ways to get their offense going, especially vs a Pittsburgh defense that has been hot of late. They will clearly need to generate points in this one or the game will be over early.
Trends: The Bills have gone 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games after allowing more than 30 points in their previous game, but just 12-26-2 ATS in their last 40 home games vs. a team with a winning road record and 1-7 ATS their last seven games in this series. The Over is 5-1 in their last 6 games after allowing more than 350 total yards in their previous game, while the Under is 8-0 in their last 8 games in Week 14.
