Bellator president Scott Corker has treated MMA fans to another Grand Prix tournament. The featherweights of the semi-finalist’s bracket are expected to deliver the entertainment value we crave as martial arts enthusiasts.
It won’t be the first time these two men have collided, but Patricio Pitbull has not faced a challenge as well as his opponent gave him during their first encounter. We have no doubt Emmanuel Sanchez will be up for the challenge three years after their initial meeting.

Bellator Featherweight Grand Prix Semi-Final Contest
Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut
Patricio Pitbull has built a legacy whilst simultaneously becoming one of the world’s greatest featherweight MMA competitors. Known for his knockout power and ruthless aggression, it’s no surprise the current Bellator featherweight & lightweight champion is now one fight short of the Grand Prix final.
The Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt has broken countless Bellator records, obtained championships in two divisions and is riding a six-fight win streak. There is not much remaining for Pitbull to accomplish, which could negatively affect a rematch with a hungry competitor like Sanchez.
His opponent, Emmanuel Sanchez, has been dominant in his own right, suffering losses but only to the best, the division has to offer. And he notably defeated Daniel Weichel in the Grand Prix quarter-final to scratch off his loss to him many moons ago.
Three years following their first encounter, Emmanuel Sanchez now has the opportunity to scratch another loss from his record whilst simultaneously becoming the Bellator featherweight champion- but this is easier said than done with Pitbull stood in front of him.
Pitbull vs. Sanchez Fight Prediction
Given both parties ability to finish a fight, it was surprising to witness their first encounter exceed the 25-minute time limit. The big question is, how much has Sanchez in-octagon fight IQ evolved since the first contest back in 2018?
It’s not like the first meeting was a landslide either; Sanchez held his own and claimed two of the five rounds, losing to a unanimous decision that could undervalue the two rounds he significantly won.
Patricio Pitbull proved he could defeat Sanchez, but it was not your typical Pitbull performance as we are so used to seeing him finish the opposition inside the distance. The durability of the (at the time)
younger Sanchez will be much more seasoned entering this fight as a thirty-year-old on a three-fight winning streak and could easily shock the critics should Pitbull have lost some of that original hunger.
The problem I’m having is understanding the odds; Sanchez’s durability and forward walking pressure in the first fight should give him more respect by the oddsmakers than the odds that are currently available.
