Manchester City FC vs. Tottenham Hotspur FC

Saturday, February 19, 2022 – 12:30 PM EST at Etihad Stadium

Manchester City will be confident in strengthening their clasp on first position of the Premier League table when they receive a visit from the inconsistent Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday afternoon.

The Citizens are nine points clear of 2nd place Liverpool, whereas Tottenham inhabits 8th position, seven points shy of a top-four placement.

Form, Mentality, Premier League Statistics and Trends

  • ⦁ Manchester City is undefeated in their previous 15 EPL fixtures
  • ⦁ Manchester City has scored at least 1 goal in their previous 20 matches
  • ⦁ Manchester City has won 10 consecutive home meetings in all competitions
  • ⦁ Tottenham has lost 3 consecutive EPL fixtures
  • ⦁ Tottenham has lost by 2 or more goals in 6 of their 8 Premier League losses this term

Underwhelming Efforts from Conte

Following a midweek dismantling of Sporting Lisbon (0-5) to basically secure a quarter-final position in the Champions League, Manchester City returns to English soil with the expectation of continuing their domineering reign in domestic competition. And despite a comfortable nine-point lead over 2nd-placed Liverpool, we know that Pep Guardiola isn’t going to give his squad the thoughts of dropping points when the Reds have looked so impressive of late.

The Citizens have remained undefeated since October 2021 whilst taking all three points in 14 of their previous 15 games. This extraordinary form has been complemented with elite defensive outings from Guardiola’s men, who’ve notably allowed a mere 14 goals this term – the lowest goals allowed record in English football.

Tottenham fans were joyous on the arrival of Antonio Conte to their managerial position, but the 2020/21 Serie A title-winning boss hasn’t found much success in North London. Currently, his squad is riding a 3-game losing streak, which doesn’t bode well when combining his disappointment in the January transfer window.

Conte went on record to say that Tottenham struggles to attract big-name players, and it’s hard to believe his squad is riding on much self-confidence following his recent comments. Don’t be surprised if the Italian leaves the club before the summer, especially if Spurs cannot find positive consistency on the pitch.

Unstoppable City Cruise Towards 2021/22 EPL Title

Owning three games in hand over 4th placed Manchester United, all is not lost for Spurs just yet, as a top-four finish is certainly achievable. However, considering their recent form, we shouldn’t anticipate their 3-game losing streak to be broken at the Etihad Stadium. Yes, the reverse fixture in London saw Tottenham succeed 1-0, but the Citizens are an entirely different beast on home turf.

Manchester City has won 6 of their previous 7 meetings with Tottenham in all competitions, and I struggle to envision the home squad suffering back-to-back defeats against Spurs. Of course, the visitors will be determined to snap their losing skid, but the Citizens are just too strong right now.

Final Thoughts | EPL Betting Picks and Odds

The EPL betting odds for Manchester City versus Tottenham are naturally in favor of the home side. Still, the home team has scored 15 goals across their previous 4 matches, including 4 and 5 nil successes.

For the reasons above, expecting the Citizens to continue their prolific goal-scoring is viable. It ultimately offers significant value on the handicap betting market instead of playing the money line.
