Governor Laura Kelly will have received some new fans from the Midwest as she signed bill SB84 at the beginning of May – finally bringing the drawn-out legal process of allowing sports betting in the state of Kansas.

The bill has finally given avid sports bettors of the Sunflower state some closure, and in the next few months, it will be completely legal to wager on sports.

Mobile wagering could arrive in Kansas as soon as August, the bill also includes the legalization of casino betting, and retail casinos will officially take wagers on sports.

Sports betting in Kansas had prominently been illegal until now, as citizens of KS now have the legal freedom to wager on sports through their mobile devices and in casinos right in time for the NFL regular season in September.

Although four different states surround Kansas, Colorado is the only neigboring location where sports betting is legal.

When Will Sports Wagering be Legal in Kansas?

Gov. Kelly passed SB84 on May.12, 2022, but this doesn’t mean Kansas residents should expect sportsbooks to be live instantly. Some minor hurdles remain before legalized sports betting goes live in KS.

The official date of sports betting to go live in Kansas is July.1, 2022, but it’s still unknown as to when sports betting will be completely active.

The expected date for sportsbooks to go live in the Sunflower State is Fall 2022, just in time for the 22/23 NFL campaign.

However, these dates are merely estimations, as some experts believe January 2023 is a realistic expectation.

Betting on NFL Games in Kansas?

Kansas isn’t one of the most populated states in the U.S., but the KC Chiefs are one of the most authoritative teams in the National Football League, making them one of the most sought-after teams for sports handicappers wager on.

With this said, the only way for Kansas citizens to wager on the Chiefs is via the fantasy pools offered by DraftKings or FanDuel. There are no retail or online sportsbooks currently operating in KS.

Of course, this factor will change very soon, as sportsbooks are expected to launch before or during the 2022/23 NFL season.

What Sportsbooks Will Be Available in Kansas?

As DraftKings and FanDuel already operate their fantasy pools within the state, it’s almost guaranteed these two gambling entities will have their sportsbooks prepared to operate on the launch date of sports betting in Kansas.

Elsewhere, top players in the U.S. sports betting industry like BetMGM, Caesars, and Hard Rock, should be expected to make their presence known in the Sunflower State.
