The Virginia Tech Hokies will try and bounce back from a devastating loss this past Saturday when they travel to Alumni Stadium to face the Boston College Eagles. This Saturday’s game is set to kickoff at noon (ET), and the ACC clash will be broadcast nationally on ABC.
The Hokies had climbed all the way to No. 14 in the rankings with a solid 6-1 straight up start, but their season took a major turn in the wrong direction with a stunning 13-10 loss to Duke as 12.5-point favorites at home. The loss dropped them to 3-3-2 against the spread, and the total has now stayed “under” in six of the eight games.
Boston College comes into this matchup fresh off a 34-10 road loss to North Carolina as a 5.5-point underdog. The Eagles have now lost four of their last five games SU while going 3-2 ATS. They are 3-4 SU (4-3 ATS) on the year, and the total has stayed under in their last two games.
Virginia Tech at Boston College Betting Storylines
Virginia Tech had developed a bad habit of losing one or two games a season as a heavy favorite over the past few years, and that trend repeated against the Blue Devils this past Saturday. The Hokies outgained Duke by almost 200 yards of total offense and had a 19-minute advantage in time of possession, but they were held scoreless until late in the third quarter, and their fourth-quarter rally came up short.
Quarterback Logan Thomas did not help the cause with four costly interceptions. He has now thrown for 1,665 yards and nine touchdowns, but he is completing just 55.2 percent of his passes, and he has been picked off a total of 10 times. The one constant for Virginia Tech this season has been a shut-down defense that is holding its opponents to an average of just 14.8 points a game. This is currently the fifth lowest total in the nation.
The Eagles started the season with back-to-back wins, including a 24-10 victory over Wake Forest as three-point home favorites to kick off play in the ACC. It has been all downhill from there with a 48-27 win over Army as 11-point home favorites sandwiched around four losses in which they were outscored by a combined 76 points. BC has fallen to 94th in the country in scoring with an average of 23 points a game.
Chase Rettig has pretty much gone the distance at quarterback for the Eagles this season on an offense that is only averaging 163.1 passing yards a game. They have done a much better job moving the ball on the ground behind running back Andre Williams with an average of 176.6 yards a game. Williams has rushed for 1,010 yards and eight touchdowns on 183 carries. Boston College’s defense has played extremely well in limited spurts. Earlier in the season it held Clemson to 24 points, but it gave up 34 points or more in each of the team’s other three losses.

College Football Picks: Virginia Tech at Boston College Betting Predictions
The Hokies are coming off a bad loss, but over the years they have always shown the ability to bounce back from these monumental letdowns with a strong showing the following week. Do not look for Virginia Tech to put a ton of points on the board against the Eagles in what should be another low-scoring contest, but it will do just enough to cover the five points on the road.
Take: #317 Virginia Tech (-5) over Boston College (noon, Saturday, Nov. 2)
