Breaking Down The Florida Gators

The Florida gators have had a decent year so far, but they would not have been in the SEC Title game had they been in the West. They just aren’t as good as those teams and then line in this game reflects it. Still, with their defense that have a chance to keep this game close, but if they hope to win the game and pull the monumental upset, then they will need much more from their offense and that is not an easy task vs an Alabama defense that has shut down far better offenses than this one. The Gators check in at 114th in the nation in total offense, 86th in passing, 104th in rushing and 104th in scoring, putting up just 24.1 ppg. This offense will not be able to move the length of the field on the tide, so they will need some help for the defense with short fields. It may be their only way of scoring in this one. The Gators do have a strong defense and the Alabama offense has been less than stellar the last couple of weeks. The gators do have a defense that can slow the Tide down, but they need to play better than they did in last week’s 31-13 loss to the Seminoles. The Gators come in ranked 6th in total defense, 4th in pass defense, 32nd against the run and 5th in points allowed, giving up just 14.8 ppg.

Breaking Down The Alabama Crimson Tide

The Alabama Crimson Tide are the defending National Champs and they are in great position to win it all again. They have again restocked their roster from all the strong players they lost in the offseason and parlayed that into the number 1 ranking in the nation with a 12-0 record. No matter what happens in this game, they will be in the playoffs. Alabama has been led by their defense this year as always and it seems to be getting stronger as the season has wore on. The Tide have allowed just 18 points total in their last four games and haven’t allowed an offensive TD sin Oct 22nd vs Texas A&M.  Now they get a crack at the worst offense in the SEC. Not good news for the Gators at all. The crimson Tide come in ranked 1st in the nation in total defense, 11th vs the pass, 1st vs the run and first in points allowed, giving up just 11.4 ppg. They allowed 73 points combined vs Ole Miss and Arkansas, but a total of just 64 points in their other 10 games this year. On offense they have been solid, but they have struggled some in 3 of their last four games and now have to deal with the 2nd best defense in the league. The Tide come in ranked 23rd in total offense, 63rd in passing, 12th in rushing and 19th in scoring, putting up 39.4 ppg so far. It is highly unlikely that they will score 40 points in this one and it is also highly unlikely that they will need more than 21 points to win this game.

Trends: The Gators have gone 7-1-1 ATS in their last 9 games after accumulating less than 100 yards rushing in their previous game and 8-3-1 ATS in their last 12 games following a ATS loss, but just 1-4-1 ATS in their last 6 games after accumulating less than 275 total yards in their previous game and 2-9-1 ATS their last 12 games in this series. The Over is 4-1 the last 5 games in the series, while the Under is 10-1 in their last 11 games after allowing more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game.

The Tide have gone 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games following a ATS loss and 12-4 ATS vs. a team with a winning record, but just 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games after accumulating more than 280 yards passing in their previous game. The Over is 12-3-1 in their last 16 games on fieldturf, while the Under is 11-2 in their last 13 games after allowing less than 170 yards passing in their previous game.
