Newcastle United FC vs. Everton FC

Wednesday, October 19, 2022 – 02:30 PM EDT at St. James Park

Penetrating Weak Defenses

Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United squad is slowly evolving into a top-six club since a cash injection from a couple of billionaires. However, it’s a slow-burning process we shouldn’t expect to be completed in a few seasons. With that said, 4-1 and 5-1 successes against Fulham and Brentford proved the Magpies are becoming dangerous when faced with a lower level of defensive systems.

The goals were nowhere to be found at Old Trafford this past weekend, but Newcastle’s midweek clash with Everton isn’t going to present a back four to worry about. Allowing 11 goals in their first ten matchdays, top scorers Callum Wilson and Miguel Almiron will be confident in extending their tallies against the Toffees.

The Toffees Suck on the Road

Frank Lampard’s squad managed to string a seven-game undefeated Premier League streak between August and October. However, it has since come crashing down with consecutive losses to Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspurs.

Two losses aren’t something to run home about, but Everton’s away form is flying red flags from all angles. With 15 road losses dating back to 2021, they’ve lost more away games than any other EPL side during this time, and they’ve also won the least number of away games (3) in the same period – if we exclude promoted and relegated teams.

Sitting two points above the relegation and with a mere two wins from their previous eight meetings against Newcastle, history and recent form isn’t favoring Lampard and co.

Pick and Prediction

The best sportsbooks have placed Newcastle as the betting favorites, but a -165 moneyline can be raised with the expectation of more than 1.5 goals being scored in the game.

Given the Magpies’ high-scoring affairs against struggling teams, a 2-0 or 3-0 scoreline wouldn’t be surprising for Wednesday’s meeting at St. James Park.

Score Prediction: Newcastle 2 – Everton 0

Brentford FC vs. Chelsea FC

Wednesday, October 19, 2022 – 02:30 PM EDT at Brentford Community Stadium

The Bees Don’t Sting During Midweek Affairs

Having run out Brighton with a 2-0 success this past weekend, Brentford snapped a three-game winless skid. Still, they’re barely holding on to a 9th-place position in the top of the EPL table as newly promoted sides Bournemouth and Fulham are creeping up the standings.

Brentford Star man Ivan Toney is undoubtedly making a case to travel with England to Qatar this winter, landing another brace during the Brighton fixture to push his total on the season to eight goals from eleven appearances. However, his goal-scoring chances will be lowered with an in-form Chelsea squad that has allowed just ten goals this term so far.

Interestingly, Brentford has never won a midweek Premier League game, losing 5 of their last 6 meetings on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. Positivity can, however, be found in their home form this term, taking 10 points from a possible 15 at the Brentford Community Stadium during the 2022/23 season.

London Derby

Chelsea is surrounded by London rivals, with Arsenal, Tottenham, Crystal Palace, West Ham, Brentford, and Fulham all attempting to be the king of the capital. That said, the Gunners and Spurs are the only sides above Graham Potter’s men in the current EPL standings, and a win on Wednesday afternoon could position the Blues one point shy of overtaking Tottenham in third place.

The managerial dismissal of Thomas Tuchel wasn’t widely received, but the arrival of Graham Potter to the Chelsea dugout has now delivered five consecutive wins in all competitions. To add, four of those five games ended with a Chelsea clean sheet.

Pick and Prediction

The available Premier League odds naturally favor Chelsea, but the Bees have notably been a solid unit on home turf.

While we expect Potter to collect his sixth consecutive win from this midweek encounter, we also believe the scoreline will be tight in a highly contested London derby.

Score Prediction: Brentford 0 – Chelsea 1
