DraftKings and FanDuel have emerged as the two most popular online sportsbooks in the United States after expanding rapidly across the country. They are both world-class online sportsbooks, so it can be difficult to choose between them.
One important consideration for higher-stakes players is the maximum win limits. Which sportsbook offers larger payouts?
Football, Basketball, and Baseball
DraftKings and FanDuel do not impose a maximum bet limit. However, winnings will be capped at a certain point. When it comes to NFL, NBA, and MLB, there is no difference. Both sportsbooks will pay out a maximum of $1 million on a single winning wager.
However, they offer different upper limits on most other sports and leagues. FanDuel will go up to $1 million on college football and up to $500,000 for all non-NFL and NCAA football bets – for example, CFL games – whereas DraftKings caps payouts at $250,000 for all non-NFL football wagers.
When it comes to basketball, FanDuel will pay out up to $1 million on non-NBA and NCAA money lines, totals, point spreads, and competition winner futures. For all other bet types, it pays out up to $500,000. DraftKings will pay out up to $1 million on Euroleague, Olympic, world, and continental men’s tournaments governed by FIBA. It will only go up to $250,000 for other basketball games, such as college basketball.
DraftKings caps non-MLB baseball payouts at $250,000, while FanDuel will go up to $1 million on NCAA baseball and $500,000 on non-MLB and NCAA baseball.
You can win up to $1 million on all ice hockey bets at FanDuel. That covers the NHL, NCAA ice hockey, and all the different European leagues. DraftKings only pays out up to $250,000 on NHL, Olympic, world, and continental tournaments covered by IIHF, plus top-tier league games in Finland and Sweden, and it only pays out up to $50,000 on all other hockey games.
FanDuel also has larger limits on soccer. It will pay out up to $1 million on Major League Soccer, English Premier League, FIFA World Cup Finals, Ligue 1, Bundesliga, Serie A, and La Liga, plus the Championship, League One, and League Two in England. It also goes up to $1 million on Champions League, Europa League, FA Cup, and competitive internationals between European teams.
It caps payouts at $1 million for futures best bets on all other leagues and $500,000 on bets on individual games. DraftKings only goes up to $500,000 on the big soccer leagues, and then it caps payouts at $100,000 or $50,000 on other leagues.
FanDuel goes up to $1 million on golf, UFC/MMA, boxing, cricket, motorsports race winner bets, athletics race winner bets, major rugby games, and darts tournaments ($500,000 on other rugby games and darts events), and Gaelic football, plus most tennis tournaments.
DraftKings has an upper limit of $250,000 on golf, $150,000 on tennis, $100,000 on UFC/MMA, boxing and cricket, and $40,000 on other sports.
FanDuel, therefore, offers significantly higher limits on most sports and leagues, potentially making it a better all-around choice for many high rollers. On the other hand, it is worth noting that you will accumulate loyalty points when betting at DraftKings, whereas the FanDuel loyalty program only covers the Daily Fantasy Sports site and not the sportsbook.
If you want even higher limits, Bet365 goes up to $5 million on certain sports and leagues. However, it is currently only available in New Jersey, whereas FanDuel and DraftKings have launched across the country.
