Breaking Down The Carolina Panthers
This has been a trying season for the Carolina Panthers as they are just 5-8 ohn the year and really have no shot at reaching the playoffs. They have been plagued by inconsistent play on both sides of the ball and losing Luke Kuechly for a while hasn’t helped them at all, He is listed as questionable for this game, but it is a concussion that he has been dealing with, so if the Panthers were smart, they would hold him out the rest of the year as this season is lost for them. They defense was so good last year, but it has been their problem this year as they come in ranked 23rd in total yards allowed, 30th vs the pass, 5th vs the run and 26th in points allowed, giving up 25.9 ppg so far. The Offense has been decent, but still feels like it is missing something. Cam Newton has not been the same as he was last year and he ranks 28th in the league in QBR with a 78.9 rating, after ranking 8th in the league last year with a QBR of 99.4. Last year they led the league in scoring at 31.2 ppg and this year they have put up just 23.9 ppg, which is 13th in the league. Overall they rank 19th in total offense, 23rd in passing and 14th in rushing. Just not the same offense they were a year ago, but they have a shot at putting up some numbers on a rather weak Washington defense.
Trends: The Panthers have gone 6-2-1 ATS in their last 9 games in Week 15, while the Dog is 9-2 ATS the last 11 games in this series, but they are just 3-8-1 ATS in their last 12 games after accumulating less than 150 yards passing in their previous game and 1-8-1 ATS in their last 10 road games. The Over is 13-3 in their last 16 vs. a team with a winning record, while the Under is 7-2 in their last 9 games in Week 15.
Breaking Down The Washington Redskins
The Washington Redskins are still alive for a playoff berth and they clearly need this game to stay in the hunt. That tie that they had may just come back to haunt them in the end. Still this has been a decent team this year that has been led by a solid offense, which could have a good showing vs a weak Carolina defense. Kirk cousins has had a solid season so far as he has thrown for 4045 yards on 67.5% passing, with 23 TDs and just 9 INTs. His QBR of 100.3 is 6th in the league. And many felt that he was not the QB to lead the team. The Skins come in ranked 2nd in total offense, 2nd in passing, 13th in rushing and 8th in scoring, putting 25.4 ppg. That offense has really been hot of late as they have averaged 28.5 ppg in their last six games. The offense has not been the problem for the skins this year, but that defense has. Washington comes in ranked 26th in total yards allowed, 24th vs the pass, 22nd vs the run and 22nd in points allowed, giving up 24.4 ppg. They could very well struggle in this one vs a Carolina offense that is more than capable of putting up big numbers. This game could be a lot of fun.
