The Pittsburgh Penguins aren’t ready to fold their tents just yet. They may be fifth in the Metropolitan Division at 27-20-9 and in danger of missing the playoffs for the first time since 2006, but these Penguins still have some bite to them, with Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin both healthy and in fine form.
Thursday’s game versus the Edmonton Oilers will be one of those “statement” games that shows just how much Pittsburgh still has in the tank. Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl are supposed to be the new Crosby and Malkin, but the Oilers are having troubles of their own, falling to fourth place in the Pacific at 31-19-8.
This game is a pick’em at Caesars Sportsbook as we go to press, with each team priced at -110 on the moneyline, but Pittsburgh is projected to win this game 53% of the time at FiveThirtyEight. That makes the Pens a solid choice for your NHL picks, and Caesars has a special deal for new customers in Pennsylvania to make it even more worth your while.

Now Root for the Penguins
Then it’s time to bet on the Penguins. This is a big test for the home team, but they’re catching the Oilers at just the right time; Edmonton has dropped four of their last five games, and their goaltending has been shaky this year with Jack Campbell (.887 save percentage) and Stuart Skinner (.913 SV%) between the pipes.
The Oilers were also missing two of their regular forwards for their last game against the Philadelphia Flyers: LW Evander Kane (upper-body) and C Klim Kostin (illness).
Kostin has reportedly traveled with the team to Pittsburgh, but he and Kane are still considered questionable for Thursday’s matchup as we go to press. These are two of the more robust players on an Oilers team that is otherwise lacking in physicality.
The Penguins, on the other hand, are about as healthy as you could ask for at this time of the season. Take advantage by claiming your bonuses at Caesars, and enjoy the game live at 07:00 PM EST on AT&T SportsNet.
