Breaking Down The Baltimore Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens had a midseason swoon, but they have righted their ship and have now won four of their last five games, with that loss coming at the hand of Dallas, who is the best team in the league right now. Last week they really put a hurtin on a Miami team that had won their last six games in a row as they beat them by a 38-6 score. Getting that much offense was a surprise, but having a strong game on defense was not as their defense comes in ranked 1st in the league in total yards allowed, 7th vs the pass, 1st vs the run and 2nd in points allowed, giving up just 17.2 ppg. They will clearly need that defense to step up here vs a very good New England team that can score at will when they are on. The Ravens put up 38 points last week vs the Dolphins, but that has not been the norm for them this year as they have struggled on that side of the ball. The Ravens come in ranked 17th in total offense, 12th in passing 28th in rushing and 21st in scoring, putting up just 21.3 ppg. They will clearly need a bit more offense in this one if they hope to pull the upset. Joe Flacco has thrown 15 TDs, but he also has 11 INTs on the year and his QBR of 84.1 is 25th in the league and now he has to square off vs Tom Brady, who has the top QBR in the league.

Trends: The Ravens have gone 19-9-1 ATS vs. a team with a winning record and 6-1-1 ATS in their last 8 road games vs. a team with a winning home record, but just 6-15 ATS in their last 21 games in December and 1-6-1 ATS in their last 8 games following a straight up win of more than 14 points. The Under is 7-2 in their last 9 games in December and 37-17-3 in their last 57 games after accumulating more than 250 yards passing in their previous game.

Breaking Down The New England Patriots

The Patriots are having another heck of a season, but they have been dealt a blow as Rob Gronkowski is now out for the year. AStill, this is New England and they always have plenty of weapons to step in and do the job. They have a plethora of solid TEs and solid receivers in Julian Edelman and Malcolm Mitchell, who is emerging as a solid receiver. Oh and don’t forget a running game that is led by LeGarrette Blount, who has run for 957 yards, which is 5thy in the league. The Pats come in ranked 6th in total yards, 5th in passing, 6th in rushing and 6th in scoring, putting up 26.6 ppg. This is a strong offense, but they will have their work cut out for them in this one as they are facing the best defense in the league. The Pats are not all about offense, though, as they can play defense as well and will be facing a rather weak Baltimore offense. The Pats come in ranked 9th in the league in total yards allowed, 12th vs the pass, 10th vs the run and 3rd in points allowed, giving up just 17.2 ppg. Even without Gronkowski, the Pats still have many ways to beat a team.

Trends: The Patriots have gone 8-2-1 ATS in their last 11 games after allowing less than 90 yards rushing in their previous game and 27-11 ATS in their last 38 games after allowing less than 150 yards passing in their previous game, but the home team is 0-6-1 ATS the last seven games in the series. The Over is 9-3 in their last 12 home games vs. a team with a winning road record and 43-21 in their last 64 games following a ATS win.
