Odds to win 84th Academy Awards

The Artist, a modern day silent film, is the odds-on favorite to win in several categories at this year’s Oscars. One of the long shots that could upset The Artist is Moneyball, a movie about the 2002 Oakland A’s and their manager Billy Beane.

The Artist is heavily favored in the categories of Best Picture, Best Director (Michel Hazanavicius) and Best Leading Actor (Jean Dujardin).

Although the odds are long, Moneyball has been nominated for Best Picture, Best Leading Actor (Brad Pitt) and Best Supporting Actor (Jonah Hill). This is the third time Pitt has been nominated for an Academy Award. So far, he is 0-for-2 at the Oscar plate.
