The LIV Golf roster moves on to Boston for their fourth event over the revolutionary 54-hole shotgun start format.

Unusually, we have two outright markets to bet on this week, the normal singles event and also a team event.

The three singles events so far, have seen rather unheralded, long shots winning:

• Charl Schwartzel in London

• Brendan Grace in Portland

• Henrik Stenson in Bedminster

Interestingly, for betting purposes, all those three winners have been priced at +3300 or above in the outright market at the best sportsbooks.

We also have to consider six new recruits this week, led by Open Champion, Cameron Smith and world number #19 Joaquin Niemann, but for betting purposes, they feel easier than normal to overlook given the media scrutiny that comes with a LIV debut.

LIV Golf Invitational Boston

Friday, September 2, 2022 – Sunday, September 4, 2022 at The International, Oaks Golf Course

What Should We Expect in Boston?

None of the courses so far have been a pushover so I think we should expect a decent test on what is a medium-length track.

There are two 18-hole courses at the location, the Pines and the Oaks, both rather obviously tree-lined with Bentgrass greens and fairways. The Oaks Course will be used with the par set at 72 for 7138 yards.

There’s no doubt, that certain players have excelled in the team environment, particularly the overseas ones. This may be because their initial guarantees were not as large as the superstars who defected and have maximum motivation each time when teeing it up for a $4,000,000 first prize.

A little harsh to speculate maybe, but when you’ve been paid $100,000,000 plus upfront, the motivation must be diluted a little.

Bryson DeChambeau

Motivation Is Never a Problem for Bryson

One player who doesn’t worry me from a motivational perspective is Bryson DeChambeau. For my money, he’s the biggest surprise and draw amongst the defectors.

I know many would think of Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka, but we’ve always been under the impression that golf isn’t their first love despite their exceptional careers, and they are a few years older.

In contrast, DeChambeau was on the ascent in his career with that one US Open win, post Covid-19 hiatus. That victory followed huge personal changes he had made to his appearance to bulk up and add distance to his game. What it did also, was change his swing and make it more frenetic in search of maximum distance.

I cannot help but conclude that the extra strain he put on his body was the reason for a number of niggling injuries in late 2021 and early 2022. That may have been in his psyche when signing up for LIV Golf because a golfer never knows when injuries may curtail their career.

How to Bet on DeChambeau

Either way, we can expect a strong performance for DeChambeau in this week’s LIV Invitational at Boston in conditions that appear perfectly suited to the young Californian.

With a win down the road at TPC Boston in 2018, we can conclude that the agronomy will be fine for him, but it’s his affinity with Bentgrass greens that draws me to the twenty-eight-year-old.

Take Bryson Dechambeau at +2500 with BetMGM at OddsTrader‘s best sportsbooks to win this week’s LIV Invitational at Boston.

Henrik Stenson

Can Henrik Go Back-to-back?

At the LIV Bedminster event, Henrik Stenson debuted with a win and a much-improved display in comparison to recent months on the other tours.

There can be little doubt, that Stenson was fired up by the criticism he received from many players and officials on the European Tour when he was stripped of the Ryder Cup captaincy for his defection.

The forty-six-year-old from Gothenburg in Sweden has had an illustrious career with winning the Open Championship the highlight. With the way he channeled his frustrations at the critics last time, who is to say that he won’t win again at a track that appears to suit him well?

I say suits him well because he won at the TPC Boston close by in 2013 and was runner-up in 2015 for good measure. From those results, we can see the Swede likes traveling to the Boston area and is at home on the Bentgrass greens.

How to Bet on Stenson

With great odds, and at the attractive price of +3500, take Henrik Stenson with Bet365 to win the Liv Boston Invitational to kick-start his LIV Golf career with back-to-back victories.
