Breaking Down The Texas A&M Aggies

The Texas A&M aggies have quietly had a great year so far and now they have a huge chance to pull one of the biggest upsets of the year. They also can fully focus on this game as they have just New Mexico State on deck. The Aggies were not expected to be this good and especially not ranked this high, but Kevin Sumlin and the addition of Baker Mayfield at QB has been huge for this team. He has led the offense to 18th in the nation in scoring, putting up 40.2 ppg. The Aggies are 44th in passing and 7th in rushing, which makes them a very tough offense to stop and they are the kind of offense that has given Alabama defense’s fits in the past. On defense, the Aggies have given up yards as they are 98th in total yards allowed and 110th vs the pass, but they are also 22nd in points allowed, giving up just 19.2 ppg. Many feel they have one of the best defensive lines in the country and that line could give the Alabama freshman QB fits. Sumlin will come up with a plan to corral this offense, but getting it to work is a different story.

Breaking Down the Alabama Crimson Tide

Alabama is sitting atop the CFB world once again. They are just very tough to beat. Last week they went into Tennessee and crushed the Vols by a 49-10 score. This team is rolling and will not hesitate to run up scores if they can. Today they do have a tough test as the Aggies have the kind of offense that can give them fits. They have a mobile QB that can run as well as throw. The defense for the tide is the 5th best in the lann and their number 1 run defense will really be tested here. This is not a traditional ground attack that the aggies run and the Tide could have problems with it. The pass defense is 46th in the nation and the allowed Arkansas 400 yards through the air, so Mayfield could very well have success throwing on this team. On offense the Tide will get their yards vs an aggie defense that gives up yards, but scoring may be a different matter as the Aggies just don’t give up many points. Alabama does average 45.4 ppg, but let’s also note that they have scored 11 non-offensive TDs this year. If they don’t score on defense or special teams in this game then they will not blowout the Aggies. On offense this year the Tide are 17th in total yards, 54th in passing, 10th in rushing and 6th in scoring.

Trends: The Aggies have gone 8-19 ATS in their last 27 conference games and 18-44-1 ATS in their last 63 road games vs. a team with a winning home record. The Under is 7-0 in their last 7 road games and 7-2 in their last 9 games after allowing more than 450 total yards in their previous game.

Alabama has gone 10-2 ATS vs. a team with a winning record and 16-7 ATS in their last 23 games in October. The Over is 4-1 in their last 5 conference games and 15-7 in their last 22 games following a straight up win of more than 20 points.
