Sunday Night Football Preview: Rams at Seahawks

Sunday Night Football logoThe St. Louis Rams and Seattle Seahawks meet on Sunday night with the winner going to the playoffs (8:20 p.m. ET, NBC).

The Rams lead the NFC West with a record of 7-8 (10-5 ATS) which is one game better than Seattle’s 6-9 (6-9 ATS). If the Seahawks can win this game they would win a tiebreaker over the Rams and become the first team in NFL history to earn a playoff berth with a losing record.

St. Louis is listed as a 4-point road favorite at and the total is set at 42. On the moneyline, the Rams are -200; the Seahawks are +170.

NBC has picked this game for their Sunday flex so it will be the final game of the regular season and in prime time. NFL purists are hoping that St. Louis wins the game to prevent a losing team from making the playoffs.

It would also be better to have a young team with some talent hosting a playoff game rather than a rotten Seattle team. The Rams are led by rookie quarterback Sam Bradford and they also have a star running back in Steven Jackson and an exciting young defense.

The Seahawks have none of that. Seattle might not even have starting quarterback Matt Hasselbeck (hip) for this game which means backup Charlie Whitehurst would get the start.

St. Louis broke a 10-game losing streak to Seattle by winning at home back in Week 4 by a score of 20-3 as 2-point dogs, but the Rams have still lost five straight in Seattle and they have not swept the Seahawks since 2004. The Rams are just 2-5 (5-2 ATS) on the road this season.

Seattle has lost five of its last six games and the Seahawks have been poor on both sides of the ball. Hasselbeck looks old, the team has no real offensive stars and the defense is awful. Seattle has given up 37.3 points per game in its last three losses.
