NBA Playoffs Betting Preview: Hornets at Lakers

Hornets Lakers logosThe New Orleans Hornets will to pull off another shocker when they face the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday night (10:35 pm ET, TNT).

The Hornets stunned the two-time defending champion Lakers on Sunday, winning the first game of this best-of-seven series 109-100 as 11-point road dogs. Chris Paul shredded the Los Angeles defense scoring 33 points, notching 14 assists, and grabbing seven boards.

The Lakers won all four games against the Hornets this season and it was expected that Los Angeles would win this series easily. That’s not the expectation anymore.

Nevertheless, the Hornets will be big underdogs again on Wednesday night. The Lakers are listed as 11.5-point home favorites at and the total is set at 187.5. On the moneyline, the Lakers are -1200; the Hornets are +800.

The Lakers have a major problem in this series because they have no one who can guard Paul. Derek Fisher is not a good defender and his backup Steve Blake is no better. The Lakers may end up having to put Kobe Bryant on Paul in order to contain the New Orleans’ star.

The Lakers got a good game out of Bryant in Game 1 as he scored 34 points. Pau Gasol, on the other hand, was terrible had just eight points and six rebounds.

Most of the Los Angeles press is blaming the loss in the first game on Gasol so he should come out fired up on Wednesday night.
