NBA Betting Preview: Rockets at Lakers

Los Angeles Lakers logoThe Los Angeles Lakers look to bounce back from Sunday’s home loss against Boston when they host the Houston Rockets on Tuesday night (10:35 p.m. ET).

The Lakers have not looked like defending champs this season. Their 109-96 loss as 3-point home favorites on Sunday against the Celtics showed Coach Phil Jackson that his team has a lot of work to do if Lakers want to win a third straight NBA title.

The Lakers are listed as 9-point home favorites at SBGGlobal.com and the total is 210.5. On the moneyline, the Los Angeles is -500; Houston is +400.

The Lakers are losing games for one main reason and that is lack of defense. Against the Celtics they allowed Boston to shoot better than 60 percent for the game and 70 percent in the fourth quarter. In post-game comments, Kobe Bryant gave the Lakers an “F” for their defense in the loss.

The Lakers (33-15 SU, 21-27 ATS) now have the fifth-best record in the NBA and are second in the Western Conference, 7.5 games behind the San Antonio Spurs, who have the league’s best record. And the Lakers are only a 1/2-game ahead of Dallas in the Western Conference.

This is the third game of a four-game road trip for the Rockets. Houston lost the first two games on the trip at Dallas and at Sacramento.

The Rockets are scoring plenty of points as they are No. 4 in the league in points per game but they aren’t playing much defense either. As a result, this could turn out to be a high-scoring game.

The Rockets (22-27 SU, 24-23-2 ATS) are just above .500 against the spread on the road and although they probably won’t win at Staples Center on Tuesday they could cover the relatively generous spread.

Here are some key NBA betting stats for Tuesday’s game:
