NBA Betting Preview: Lakers at Suns

Los Angeles Lakers logoThe Los Angeles Lakers and Phoenix Suns get the national spotlight on Wednesday night (10:30 p.m. ET, ESPN).

Coming off an embarrassing 104-85 loss at home to Memphis on Sunday when they were booed off the court by their hometown fans, the Lakers responded with a 108-83 shellacking of Detroit on Tuesday night.

The two-time defending champs (24-11 SU, 16-19 ATS) lead the Pacific Division and clearly have the talent to still make a run at the NBA title. Meanwhile, the Suns (14-18 SU, 12-19-1 ATS), despite sitting in second behind the Lakers in the Pacific, are in serious trouble.

Oddsmakers at have the Lakers listed as 4-point road favorites with the total listed at 208. On the moneyline, the Lakers are -185 and the Spurs are +165.

Although they are playing in a back-to-back games, the Lakers have played well with no rest – they are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games in that situation. And they will be playing in Phoenix, which is not nearly as difficult as it has been in the past – the Suns are just 8-7 (5-10 ATS) at home.

The Lakers have been rotten at home against the number (6-11 ATS), but on the road they are 10-8 ATS.

The Suns still have Steve Nash but they are not a good team. As usual, the team is playing very little defense – it’s allowing the second-most points per game (108.4). And while the Suns offense is good (106.4 ppg), it is no longer leading the league like it id the past two seasons.

Phoenix has lost nine of its last 12 games and will probably miss the playoffs this season.
