NBA Betting Preview: Lakers at Celtics

Boston Celtics logoThe most storied rivalry in the NBA will be renewed on Thursday night when the Boston Celtics host the Los Angeles Lakers (8:05 p.m. ET, TNT).

The teams have met in two of the last three NBA Finals – the Celtics won the championship three years ago while the Lakers captured the title for the second-straight time last year.

This is their second and final regular season meeting this season. The teams met late last month in Los Angeles and the Celtics won easily 109-96 as 3-point dogs.

Boston is listed as a 2.5-point home favorite at SBGGlobal.com and the total is 187.5. On the moneyline, the Celtics are -140; the Lakers are +120.

Even though the Lakers beat the Celtics in last year’s NBA Finals, the Celtics still hold a 9-3 all-time advantage over the Lakers in the Finals.

In the regular season the Celtics have won four of the last seven meetings including the one last month. That loss seemed to get the attention of Los Angeles and the Lakers have started to play better defense.

They are 3-1 since the loss to Boston and they easily could be 4-0; their only loss came by a single point to the San Antonio Spurs in a game they could have won.

The Lakers have been on the road for the past two games and looked good in wins over New Orleans (101-95 as 5-point favorite) and Memphis (93-84 as 3-point favorites).

The Celtics are just 2-2 (1-3 ATS) since their win over the Lakers and they are starting to show a few cracks. They are coming off a poor effort at Charlotte where they lost 94-89 as 4.5-point favorites. Boston has had two days off to think about that loss.

Here are some key NBA betting stats for Thursday’s game:

The Lakers are 7-3-1 ATS in their last 11 road games vs. a team with a winning home record. The Celtics are 5-1 ATS in their last six Thursday games. The Celtics are 7-15-1 ATS in their last 23 vs. the Pacific. In this series, the Celtics are 6-2-1 ATS in the last nine meetings in Boston.

The under is 19-7-1 in the Lakers’ last 27 vs. the Eastern Conference. The under is 18-7-2 in the Lakers’ last 27 vs. the Atlantic. The under is 28-13 in the Lakers’ last 41 overall. The under is 21-8-1 in the Celtics’ last 30 vs. the Pacific. The under is 4-0 in the last four meetings in Boston.
