Horizon League Championship: Butler at Milwaukee

2011 Horizon League Championship logoAn NCAA Tournament bid will be at stake on Tuesday night as Butler faces Milwaukee in the Horizon League Championship (9:00 p.m. ET, ESPN).

Butler may get an at-large bid even if they lose while Milwaukee’s probably needs to win to get a tourney bid. Milwaukee (19-12 SU, 15-9 ATS) will have homecourt advantage and they will need it against a Butler team that has 22 wins on the season.

Butler (22-9 SU, 14-13-1 ATS) is a 3-point favorite at SBGGlobal.com and the total is set at 135. On the moneyline, the Bulldogs are -155; the Panthers are +135.

Butler is coming off a 76-68 win on Saturday in the semifinals against Cleveland State as 4-point home favorites. That win was huge for the Bulldogs and it probably knocked Cleveland State out of NCAA tournament consideration.

The Bulldogs will be up against a Milwaukee team that was very good at home this season (10-4 ATS, 7-5 ATS). The homecourt advantage might be enough for the Panthers to get the win versus a Butler team that was weak on the road (6-6 SU, 4-7-1 ATS).

Each team comes into the game playing well. Butler has won eight straight (4-3-1 ATS) while Milwaukee has won 10 of 11 (9-2 ATS).

Butler is led by Matt Howard who is averaging 16.7 points per game while Milwaukee is led by Anthony Hill who is averaging 15.6 points per game. In the Panthers’ 70-63 win over Valparaiso on Saturday, Hill notched a double-double scoring 24 points and pulling down 11 rebounds.

Milwaukee won both games against Butler this season. The Panthers routed the Bulldogs 76-52 in Milwaukee back in early January as 10-point home dogs. Hill had 22 points in that game.

Later in the month, Milwaukee won in overtime at Butler 86-80 as 14-point road dogs. Howard had 18 points for Butler while Hill had 18 points in the Milwaukee win.
