Waste Management Phoenix Open logoThe PGA Tour heads to Arizona this week for the Waste Management Phoenix Open at the TPC in Scottsdale. Phil Mickelson is the 7-1 favorite in what should be an exciting weekend of golf.

Mickelson, who went to school at Arizona State, has won this event twice and is the co-record holder for the best round in the Phoenix Open, a career-low 60. Mickelson was in contention for a win last week but lost by a shot to Bubba Watson at the Farmers Insurance Open last week in San Diego.

Both Mickelson and Watson (24-1) will face a loaded field this week (Note: Tiger Woods will not be playing in the tournament). Other than Mickelson, Dustin Johnson is the only other golfer who has single-digit odds at 9-1.

Rickie Fowler, who finished second in this event last year, is the third choice in the betting at 15-1. Nick Watney who closed with a great round last week in San Diego is next at 16.5 to 1. Anthony Kim is listed at 18-1.

Bill Haas who was in contention last week until Sunday is listed as 23.5-1 and Hunter Mahan who won this event last year, is sitting at 24-1. Mahan shot 65 on Sunday to win by one stroke over Rickie Fowler in 2010.

The TPC at Scottsdale is not the toughest course on the PGA Tour so expect some low scores. Oftentimes the player who has the hottest putter ends up as the winner.

The field is so deep and talented that there are a lot of quality golfers who have longshot odds. Big names like Geoff Ogilvy and Charles Howell III have odds of more than 30-1.

Rookie Jhonattan Vegas has a ton of value at odds of 37-1. He has already won this season on Tour and he nearly won again last week. He does not look like a rookie and it would not be a surprise to see him win again this week.

Camilo Villegas has odds of more than 40-1 while Brandt Snedeker is listed at 43-1 and he led the field in putting in San Diego last week. Bettors can even get Lucas Glover at odds of 75-1.

There is a lot of value on the board this week and it may be a good spot for golf bettors to laid down some action on a big-name golfer at long odds.
