Free NCAAF Pick: Georgia Tech vs. Florida State

The Coastal Division Champion Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets will square off against the Atlantic Division’s Florida State Seminoles in this season’s ACC Championship Game at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte. Saturday’s kickoff is set for 8 p.m. (ET), and the game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.

Georgia Tech wrapped up play in the ACC with a huge 28-6 upset of Clemson as a two-point home underdog on Nov. 15, and this past Saturday it stunned Georgia 30-24 in overtime as a 10.5-point underdog on the road. The Yellow Jackets are now a perfect 5-0 both straight up and against the spread in their last five games. The total has stayed “under” in three of their last four outings.

The Seminoles survived yet another scare to remain undefeated on the year with a tight 24-19 victory against rival Florida this past Saturday as seven-point home favorites. They are now just 1-3 ATS in their last four games and 3-9 ATS this season. The total has stayed under in their last four games.

Georgia Tech vs. Florida State Betting Storylines

The Yellow Jackets got hot at the right time of the year to claim this season’s Coastal Division title in the ACC, but the level of competition also helped their cause. The win against the Bulldogs definitely gives this team some credibility heading into this matchup, but you have be careful not to overestimate Georgia Tech in light of just how big a rivalry that game was.

One thing you do not have to question is the Yellow Jackets’ ability to move the ball on the ground. They are ranked fourth in the nation in rushing with an average of 333.8 yards a game. Quarterback Justin Thomas has thrown for only 1,460 yards, but he does have 16 touchdown passes. His biggest contribution has been with his legs after rushing for 861 yards and five scores. There is some concern on the other side of the ball with a defense that has allowed an average of 30.8 points in five of its last seven contests.

It has not always been pretty, but you have to give credit to head coach Jimbo Fisher and the entire Florida State roster for its ability to finish strong and win games. The Seminoles have consistently tested their resolve with numerous early-game deficits, yet in the end they have ended up on top in every game they have played for two seasons now. This has to count for something, especially this time of the year when so much is on the line.

The main man behind this incredible run has been quarterback Jameis Winston. After winning last year’s Heisman Trophy as a true freshman, he has thrown for 3,250 yards and 21 touchdowns this season while completing an impressive 65.1 percent of his 392 attempts. The biggest intangible he brings to the table is the ability to make the big play when his team needs one the most. Florida State’s defense has allowed an average of 22 points a game, and it also knows how to come up big when the game is on the line.

College Football Picks: Georgia Tech vs. Florida State Betting Predictions

There is no doubt it has been a bumpy ride wagering on Florida State this season, but this current 3.5-point spread is still a bit low when it comes to comparing the overall talent level on both of these teams. The Bulldogs should be able to hang tight with Florida State just like quite a few other teams have done this season, but in the end look for the Seminoles to pull away to get the win both SU and ATS.

Take: # 125 Florida State (-3.5) over Georgia Tech – 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6
