College Basketball Betting Preview: Syracuse at Villanova

Two Top 25 teams tip off on Monday as No. 17 Syracuse (22-6 SU, 8-16 ATS) visits No. 15 Villanova (21-6 SU, 11-12 ATS) in a Big East showdown (7:00 p.m. ET, ESPN).

The teams are separated by just a half game in the Big East standings – Villanova is 9-5 in conference play; Syracuse is 9-6) – so this is a critical game.

Each team is coming off a win on Saturday but neither team was very impressive in victory. Villanova survived to win 77-75 in overtime at DePaul as 11.5-point favorites while Syracuse needed overtime at home to get past Rutgers 84-80 as a 12-point chalk.

For tonight, Villanova is listed as a 4-point home favorite at and the total is set at 135. On the moneyline, the Wildcats are -175; the Orange are +155.

The Wildcats were supposed to easily handle DePaul on Saturday but they couldn’t shoot the ball effectively, and if not for a great game from Corey Fisher, they would have lost. Fisher had a career-high 34 points in the victory.

Despite the straight up win, Villanova once again failed to cover the numbers. The Wildcats are now 1-7 against the spread in their last eight games.

Syracuse has been equally touch on backers recently; the Orange are 3-7 in their past 10 games against the point spread. If not for superiority on the free-throw line, the Orange would have lost straight up to Rutgers on Saturday.

The last time that Villanova and Syracuse met was just about a month ago at the Carrier Dome and the Wildcats pulled out an 83-72 win as 5.5-point road dogs.

Villanova shot the ball very well in that game and led almost from the opening tip. The difference this time around could be the status of Corey Stokes. He was leading the team in scoring (14.6 points per game) but has missed the past three games with a toe injury.
