College Basketball Preview: Michigan St. at Ohio St.

The No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes (24-1 SU, 11-11 ATS) will look to bounce back from their first loss of the season when they host Michigan State (14-10 SU, 7-15 ATS) in a Big Ten battle on Tuesday night (9:00 p.m. ET, ESPN).

The Buckeyes blew a 15-point second half lead and were beaten 71-67 at Wisconsin as 2-point dogs on Saturday. That loss knocked then out of the No. 1 spot in the AP poll, which was taken over by Kansas.

Ohio State will face a Michigan State team that badly needs a signature win if it hopes to make the NCAA Tournament.

The Buckeyes are listed as 13-point home favorite at SBGGlobal.com and the total is set at 136.5.

Ohio State are 11-1 SU in the Big Ten, two games ahead of both Wisconsin and Purdue, who are both 9-3. The Buckeyes haven’t been kind to backers in conference play – they are 5-7 ATS against Big Ten foes.

Michigan State played well last time out against Penn State winning 75-57 as 6.5-point home favorites, but they still are not winning on the road (4-8 SU, 2-7 ATS). The Spartans have lost their last five away from home losing by an average of 13.8 points per game.

Ohio State didn’t play poorly against Wisconsin on Saturday; the Buckeyes shot 54.3 percent from the field. The problem was from beyond the arc as Wisconsin outscored Ohio State 36-9 from three-point range.

Another concern for the Buckeyes is blowing big leads. They blew a 12-point lead last month against Northwestern but still won. They were not able to get away with blowing a big lead against the Badgers.

The question for Michigan State is whether the win against Penn State was a step toward making a late season tourney run or just a one game fluke.

Head coach Tom Izzo said that his team is trying to take steps in the right direction. The problem for the Spartans is that they simply are not as good as Ohio State, and Izzo has called winning at Ohio State a “daunting task.”

Here are some key college basketball betting stats for Tuesday’s game:
