College Basketball Betting Preview: Indiana at Purdue

Indiana (12-12, 3-8 conf.) visits No. 14 Purdue (18-5, 7-3 conf.) in a battle of Big Ten rivals on Tuesday (7:00 p.m. ET, ESPN).

The Boilermakers (12-7 ATS) are listed as 13.5-point favorites at SBGGlobal.com. The total is set at 136.5.

Although heavily favored, this is a dangerous game for Purdue; Indiana has upset two Top-25 teams in the past two weeks.

On Jan. 27 the Hoosiers beat Illinois (then-No. 20) as 4-point home dogs and on Feb. 2 they knocked off Minnesota (then-No. 18) as 3-point home pups.

Purdue comes into the game tied with Wisconsin for second in the Big Ten while the Hoosiers are tied with Iowa for last place. Indiana has played better of late but most of its success has come at home.

The Hoosiers have had all kinds of trouble on the road (0-7 SU, 3-4 ATS) and winning at Purdue will be very difficult. The Boilermakers are a perfect 12-0 SU (7-3 ATS) at home this season.

One potential concern for Purdue backers on Tuesday will be the temptation for players to overlook Indiana after having played four straight games against Top-25 teams, going 2-2 in those games.

The Boilermakers are led by senior F-C JaJuan Johnson who is averaging 20.8 points per game, the most in the Big Ten and No. 14 in the nation.

Indiana has been led lately by Jordan Hulls who has scored in double figures in 10 of his past 12 games. He tied his career-high with 24 points in Saturday’s 1-point loss to Iowa as 5.5.-point home favorites.

In this series, Purdue has won three in a row and four of the past five meetings. Last season the Boilermakers won 78-75 in Bloomington when they were ranked in the Top 10 while Indiana was unranked.
