Baseball Betting Preview: Giants at Dodgers

San Francisco Giants logoThe World Champion San Francisco Giants open up the 2011 baseball betting season on the road against division rival Los Angeles on Thursday night (8:00 p.m. ET, ESPN).

The game will feature a great pitching matchup with right-hander Tim Lincecum (16-10, 3.43 ERA in 2010) going for the Giants while the Dodgers counter with lefty Clayton Kershaw (13-10, 2.91 ERA in 2010).

The Dodgers are listed a slim -107 favorites at SBGGlobal.com and the total is set at 6.5 (over -115). On the runline, the Dodgers are -1.5 (+195).

The Giants begin defense of their World Series title without two very important players as closer Brian Wilson is on the DL with an oblique injury while postseason hero Cody Ross (fielder) is out for a couple of weeks with a calf injury.

The Giants still have a great pitching rotation led by Lincecum. He was great last year in the season opener for the Giants striking out seven in seven shutout innings against the Astros in a 5-2 victory as -145 road favorites.

The 5-foot-11 hurler has pitched well against the Dodgers having gone 5-1 in his career with a 3.43 ERA.

Meanwhile, the Dodgers will look to their ace Clayton Kershaw to get them off to a winning start. The 6-foot-3 southpaw was great last season against NL West divisional foes notching a 9-2 record.

Kershaw was almost unhittable against the Giants last season with a 1.55 ERA. In his career against San Francisco he is 1-1 with a 1.46 ERA.

The Giants and Dodgers have split their last 20 meetings overall and they have also split the last 10 games in Los Angeles.
