Breaking Down The Alabama Crimson Tide

Can Anyone stop the Tide? It doesn’t seem likely, but some feel that they will be their toughest test of the year so far. Alabama is 8-0 on the year and have outscored their foes by 29.0 ppg so far. Just another dominating year for Alabama, but they are playing an LSU team that has played well of late and always seems to give Alabama fits. Just like every other year, the Tide have been led by their amazing defense, which comes in ranked 4th in the nation in yards allowed overall, 33rd vs the pass, 1st vs the run and 4th in points allowed, giving up just 14.9 ppg. They have stated that they will look to stop Leonard Fournette again, but LSU has become a pretty good passing team of late and that is a weakness of this Alabama defense. On offense, the Tide have been led by freshman Jalen Hurts, who has thrown for 1549 yards and 11 TDs, while also rushing for 521 yards and 9 TDs. He leads an offense that ranks 17th in the nation in total yards, 66th in passing, 10th in rushing and 8th in scoring, putting up 43.9 ppg. They will be taking on one of the toughest defense they will have faced this year, so this offense will be tested.

Breaking Down The LSU Tigers

A few years ago Ed Orgeron did a fine job as an interim head coach when he took over in mid-season at USC. Well, he is doing again as the Tigers are now 3-0 since he took over for the fired Les Miles and the Tigers have outscored their foes by 29 ppg in those games. The Tigers have really opened up the offense under Orgeron as they have averaged 41.7 ppg in his 3 games and just 21 ppg in the 4 games with Miles at the helm. Overall, this offense comes in ranked 51st in total yards, 104th in passing, 20th in rushing and 61st in scoring, putting up 29.9 ppg. This offense has averaged 304 ypg on the ground and 232 ypg through the air in their last three games, but now they play a real college defense. On the defensive side of the ball, the Tigers have allowed just 277.3 ypg and 12.7 ppg in their last three games, so they have played well on defense of late also. Overall they are now 13th in total yards allowed, 42nd vs the pass, 7th vs the run and 5th in points allowed, giving up just 15.0 ppg. It will be fun to watch their run defense face off against the power ground attack of the Tide.

Trends: The Tide have gone 8-2 ATS in their last 10 road games vs. a team with a winning home record and 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games after allowing less than 20 points in their previous game. The Over is 4-0 in their last 4 road games vs. a team with a winning home record, while the Under is 14-5 in their last 19 games after accumulating more than 450 total yards in their previous game.

The Tigers have gone 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a ATS win and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games following a bye week. The Over is  5-1-2 in their last 8 games following a ATS win, while the Under is 13-3-1 in their last 17 conference games.
