If you’re a horse player, you might want to up the ante on Uncle Mo next weekend.

Trained by legendary trainer Todd Pletcher, Uncle Mo is the early favorite in the $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic, a race with the richest purse in North America horse racing.

This year the 28th running of the Classic will take place at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky on on November 5 (6:15 p.m. ET, ESPN).

Uncle Mo finished first in last year’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile at Churchill Downs.

Other notables scheduled to race in this year’s Classic include the two previous Belmont Stakes winners: Ruler on Ice (2011) and Drosselmeyer (2010). Both are relative longshots.

Animal Kingdom, this year’s Kentucky Derby winner, will not be running in the Classic. In fact, the only horse from the Derby likely to race will be Stay Thirsty, who finished 12th.

Stay Thirsty, who finished No. 2 behind Ruler on Ice at this year’s Belmont, is also a longshot.

Below are the early 2011 Breeders’ Cup odds to win at a few selected online books.
